I prefer just sitting at home playing with the kids. But no matter if it's lounging on the beach with a ####tail or playing blocks with the little guy in the living room, neither are gonna happen if you don't get a solid rate.

Perhaps, you just started and you don't know what's involved on the cost side. At $1.30 -1.50 a mile you do need to run 3000 miles a week to sustain a decent driver pay but that's a burden on the truck, which will manifest itself sooner than you think and as a result the maintenance costs will accelerate and down time will be more frequent, especially when you happen to have break downs on the road and out of town shops will be fixing it. The flaw of cost per mile is that it is based on what's in the past. You may have a decent stretch of time with no down time, money will seem easy coming, and that illusion ( or a trap into which I fell myself) may also be true even for those running at 1 dol a mile but it will not last forever - $3000 per week will eventually turn $1300 - $1600 per week and that is a non mega carrier driver pay...meaning nothing else but little money left in the business account. And your finance degree should allow you to comprehend what it means.

Mind you. I am not even saying that I am that better off than you at this time , but the point is to realize that this rate you're running for is not good at all. And freedom and Independence, I applaud too, but it is bound to end, if things stay for much longer at this level. Simply, you'll need another truck or an overhaul or any major repair and there is no money left to pay for it.

I totally get the numbers trust me! An if you guys go to my original post I say,"may not be ideal but with freight rates right now it is keeping me steady.” As in this is getting me by with a pay check till rates go back up and don’t end up with 40,000 lbs for $1.40, when I run less the 10,000lbs at $1.30 putting much less wear on the truck and and saving prolly that 10cents alone in fuel.

Running for a fixed rate may work for some folks. I say look at Landstar Bco get 65 cents on the dollar so a 2.00 a mile gross run is what 1.30 a mile. I say if those 3000 are adding up to 12000 net per month its alright. Just think I sit days on end looking for 2.50 3.00 a mile loads that just dont make it to me now I only make 900 a week because I simply want 2.50 on up loads. I hauled for 1.30 to pay my bills. Btw linehaul jobs may be sought after but its a job. Nothing is given to you Good luck

I once leased on to Landstar, I'm speaking figurative about rates. Landstar pays what percentage to Owner ops using company vans? Do the math at 2.00 a mile gross is what at 65% 1.30
I doubt all bco loads tendered are paying over 2.00 Gross....

hardly pull anything less than 2.00 gross mostly because in a bad area where I dont go to under 3.50 but I mostly stay Midwest and mostly do landstar loads instead of double brokered loads, even last year was ok of course not like 18 but that may never come back .... i dont ever sit for a load that just dont pay off in the long run . i farm in the summer so dont run hard more part time job but still clear over 1k a week with around 30 hours away from home , then November to may run hard .... landstar is working for me but may not work for you

Landstar can zap the spunk out of a owner operator. They will call you and threaten your contract if your elf go red and blue screen while looking for a place to park. I met many people and including myself that will tell you landstar is great just don’t need them for anything.
