Pulling tanks should give you an advantage in the finesse department. That'll help get you through all sorts of sticky situations.

And dropping a gear or two & running at higher RPMs instead of low will help you make the most of limited traction. You get way faster response out of the engine up high & finer control too.

To me, most mountains & winter driving isn't that big of a deal. I have noticed though that many people's comfort levels seem to be related to where they grew up & first learned to drive. I'm sure I'd freak out at the 1 lane, high traffic goat paths in some areas, especially in other parts of the world.

Well, I finally got the word today. Going in for my testing on Thursday. As long as everything checks out, they'll be ready for me 2nd week of January.

Good deal! What kind of testing are they having you do? Just a road test or do you have to do a physical and other stuff again?

From what I've been told, I'm doing road, physical, and drug test. Once all those come back good, they're going to bring me back in another day for a dexterity test. After that, it's just a matter of paperwork and assigning me to a trainer

    MYSTYKRACER Thanks this.

Interesting. Just out of curiosity, I'm assuming you already have a med card, so are they essentially asking you to recertify w/ their doctor?

The reason I ask is b/c I hope to be doing the same thing at the Pasadena terminal in the next few weeks. I'm literally just waiting for my license card showing my hazmat + tanker endorsement to come in the mail hopefully by the end of this week. I talked to the TM couple of weeks ago and he said as soon as I got my license to give him a call back and he'd schedule me to come down for an interview. I lost 50lbs over the summer ( 280 > 230 ) to get my bp to an acceptable level but it still runs a little high even though I continue to work out like a maniac. I'm not afraid of any drug tests or anything like that but frankly the fewer bp tests I have to do the better.

Go to a doc and get on some bp meds.
Even an urgent care clinic can give you something to get started, to get you through the physical. I had to do this once and I passed with decent blood pressure.

Well other than being told I need to work on backing (understandable), I was given the green light on my road test. I go back next monday or tuesday to do my dexterity and report for training on the 13th!

    Fantastic!
I actually did the same thing myself today. Met w/ the TM at Pasadena and had a good talk and then passed the road test w/ one of the terminal trainers!

Unfortunately I ran into a road bump when they sent me for a physical and drug screen. My bp was elevated and the clinic couldn't clear me. So they want me to see my primary doctor and get some meds at least temporarily to get it down and come back in next week. So I'll be seeing my doctor tomorrow to get over this last hurdle but otherwise I've been given the green light to start training asap!
