    Wow. That’s $200 a week -

I imagine rental houses in that zip code would be expensive too?

Rentals in NW Chicago suburbs $1400-$1700 for no special 2 bedroom and 1 car spot in the building basement. Houses go over $2500

My idea of an owner operatorship is also that it is best to live in the area where you could easily pull your rig onto your property. Be able to do some wrenching or polishing. Some may object for so called aesthetic reasons but I would not mind, if properties are spread apart enough so I don't need to hear a neighbor's reefer.

I think you have to keep in mind that you are competing in business with lots of people that do not have that kind of overhead costs, the parking and the taxes. We pay just over $1,100 in property taxes, two blocks from the state University. A mile from the Kenworth dealer and a couple of miles from the mall, any number of grocery stores, etc. I'm paying $75 per month for parking, but that's because it's a nice, lighted easily accessible spot and I hate having to "make a spot". But in the market, we'd be pulling for the same brokers, getting the same pay. Something to think about.

He should really quit throwing his hard earned tax dollars down that black hole called Illinois and Cook County and move to one of the neighboring states. Not just based on trucking concerns and costs either. The politics and policies of that area are toxic and disastrous, but if he won’t see the light that is on him.

Noooo,Not true,Well at least for me-

We have to make a lot more to offset what we pay in taxes and costs of living in big cities....

I'd go Broke hauling exclusively for Brokers......Im Sure TallJoe and a few others from my area, Make enough to Live better

Keep in mind too.....Its all Relative, If "We" couldn't afford it comfortably, We wouldn't have lived this way- I Love Chicago- Always have always will, My kids are grown and gone- No mortgage, And its good.

When I retire,Who Knows I may Go downstate or somewhere

No property tax up here in Louisiana on property’s valued under 100k. So we pay 0 on the first property and like $65.00 a year on property two on a combined 2.3 acres. Park the truck and trailer at home. No shop on it yet, maybe one day! I just wing working on it in the yard for now. 5 miles off I-20. Within 10 miles to my big parts house, volvo, Kenworth, Freightliner, international, Cummins, Napa truck, consolidated, about 5 different 3rd party part houses’, another 5+ independent repair shops. The one I use when I’m not wrenching is 5 miles out.

10 miles from downtown, city center on a 100k + population city. I would love some of the conveniences of larger city’s like more international food, more like minded peer groups, better health food selections. But all in all, I’m cheap. I like the quiet. I don’t like having all those extra bills, I try to always keep costs low as possible within reason. And have built a family here. Maybe one day I move west.

but this is the beautiful thing about America, we have this choice and freedom to decide and discover what makes us tick and how to go about making it a reality for us and our families! Hope that 2020 will be great for you all.
