Looking into moving East. Checked the SGI website and it says they'll accept a Class 1 from another province. If the Class 1 has been held for more than 24 months, no testing required, just surrender the other province's license. Just wondering if they require proof of recent experience in that 24 months?

I honestly don't know . Best bet is probably to call and get that info directly from SGI, instead of relying on one of us gooobers, who may or may not have accurate info. Or get the proof, then you're good to go either way.

Experience is not relevant, you're not driving for the SK government, just exchanging a licence which you've already held.

From BC you need to show 2 years experience, because BC doesn't have melt yet. Otherwise you're good to go.

And how would one show proof of experience? Just having held a license for 2 years or do you need to bring in ROE's or letters of employment?

If the license was issued at least 2 years ago then that alone is evident of experience. In the case of renewed licenses you would need to obtain a letter from ICBC indicating when the class 1 was originally issued. Insurance info or roe won't help as sgi needs to see license issue date, nothing else.

On the other hand, Alberta and sask do share DL info and should not require a letter or anything extra. Just BC because they are weird.

Oh I know all about BC. Lived there over half my life before I ran away to Alberta over a decade ago.

When I left BC I was just about eligible to test out of their GDL program. They told me that unless I completed their GDL program before I moved I would be placed back into it should I ever decide to return to BC. I was shocked. I actually threw out the scenario: What if I were to move back in 5 years with a Class 1? They told me I'd be issued another "Novice" GDL until I completed the road test for the Class 5, then they'd issue me the Class 1.

Sounds pretty far-fetched but its BC and does not suprise me if it was true.

Oh I believe it, government workers aren't allowed to step outside of protocol, they'll maintain those standards even if you expose the bugs in their system. Case point:
-Have BC class 1 and transfer to AB
-Can only transfer to class 5 due to MELT
-MELT doesn't apply to class 3 though - demand class 3
    >Error
-demand class 3 - not under MELT regs.
    >Error
-try to reason with government robot
    >Error
Ok guess I'll go back to BC and downgrade to class 3, then exchange it directly?
    >Government bot explodes

    True story
