Yeah, Shenzhen is a single man's paradise. Probably a million single women working there in the various industries. You probably already know that.

I got out of the Navy in 1990 and moved to Las Vegas. I know this information is old but I talked to a few friends out there and the told me nothing has changed. I was waiting for ARCO to call me so I had lots of time to work. Arco told me it would be about 6 months before I could get into a truck. So I had to feed the family. Got a call for Nevada Fly Ash. Told me if I wanted a job be at their terminal at 8 pm and we'll give you a road test. So I went out there and a set of doubles was already loaded and an old man came out and thru me the keys and said, " you ready". I told him I would be as soon as I did a pre-trip. So about 830pm we roll out going to Southern Cail. to the huge bulk plant at the foot of the San Bernnardino (east side) Mtns. We off loaded gypsum road and back loaded dry cement then back to Vegas. Had to because we had no sleeper. Got to Vegas and drove way out to the a cement batch plant and blew off the cement. I asked the old man was that it. He replied," Nope, we've got to go get gypsum rock for tonight's load. So out in the desert we go until we reach a gypsum mine. Lucky we had something to load our truck with. Then it was back to the yard. Pulled in and the boss was there at 230 pm. He said ,"Well how'd you like it". I said what's the pay after all I was in that truck 18 hours. He told, "Of the first course you work for free then it's $85 a run. I said, "No thanks".

Friend of mine landed a job in Shenzhen and transferred from the states to there. Worked for some computer outfit as an engineer. Was laid off and found a job with Lenovo. Ended up staying there 10 years.
Anyway, when he first went there he told the wife he'd send for her after he settled in. Two years later, he was still making excuses. She flew there with no warning to see what was going on and caught him with his pregnant girfriend. Wife divorced him and he took girlfriend back to the states. Not an uncommon happening with Americans working in China. His wife told him later she now realizes she was a real "beach" during their marriage and can't really blame him for the girl friend.

    hi!
This was a super helpful reply thank you. My husband and I are purchasing our first super 10 and moving back to Las Vegas. I already contacted SR Trucking and received the OO packet.

Is there plenty work out there especially for a newbie like us with 1 super 10 truck? Makes me nervous to buy this truck and want to make sure I can put it to work. Thanks in advance

Super 10 all the way to super 18 is the way to go in this town as of now and beyond. Lots of homes and communities being built daily. The city is always layin out asphalt everywhere 24/7. With rules changing in California for the worst, it’s residents are moving eastward and the first stop seems to be Vegas. (I did the same as well from Oregon)

rates are a little discouraging being from rates I’m used to in the north. But if your solely in it for the money then I always tell people owning a trucking company is the fastest way to drive a sane man, insane. The brokers here have been the brokers in this town for a very long time and will continue to be so whilst they have all the networks covered. I.e. dumpsite/friendships/family.

short answer..... yes there is work for a good amount of years. Given the economy stays on track or better. Cost of living is rising with the better economy. But better than other places.

best of luck out here in the desert.

@Jncdumps give Hightower trucking a call 702-492-1012. They’re an up and coming broker here in the city. They deal with mostly 10 wheeler style work. I personally have never ran under them. But they usually have a few trucks running for the same customer my trucks are running for
