This is a first in my lifetime where Qualcomm has managed to deliberately BOTCH a firmware update (There is a difference) that WILL brick several specific models if these are not updated by midnight nov 2.

What part of update now do our trucking companies not understand?

I am shore as hell interested. Whomever botched and effed a whole nation of trucks should be strung up by the ethernet to the datacenter's trunk cooling system.

Seriously... who did not see this coming? This cannot happen again. Ever.

It wasn’t a whole nation of trucks. Lol. Plenty of Omnitracs units were functioning during this time.

I am sorry for the excessive hyperbole, but in my mind someone in Qualcomm bricked out the satellite comms all over the place. It's pretty serious when BIG companies with tens of thousands of trucks each message drivers to forget that crap and use paper logs.

This ongoing situation is as we say in the west "A Burr under my saddle" and frankly I am peeved. In computer terms it's horrifying.

Ok. But some of the responsibility also has to fall on the carriers still using the older units affected by this.

I guess I don’t see it as terrifying when the majority of trucks on the road weren’t affected.

I kinda want it to happen more often. Then maybe we could hope for a repeal of the mandate.

    Timin770 and x1Heavy Thank this.

I have had two logs going concurrently for 2 years now. My aobr and various test elds - at one point I had two different tablets plus the qualcom. For years we had trainees keeping a paper practice log alongside their legal aobr log.

All you need to do is designate which one is your legal log.

Technically you can fill out a paper log while running with an Eld as long as you don't sign the paper log. Swift training policy encourages the trainee to do this during his mentor phase.

Probably a good ideal to e mail your logs to yourself for tax purposes. Companies only hold them for a couple of years.
