Cool. I take it you work at Air Products. Is it better to apply as a truck driver or truck driver/technician (it says 20% driving and 80% technician)? Looking to be home daily and work with cryo.

I would guess that as a technician/driver you're going to be doing some climbing.
Also I'd guess they make a bit less than drivers at least ours do.

OK, I wasn't sure what that job was. I guess you're sort of a mechanic for the equipment at the customers, but you also deliver cryo sometimes.

I'd say apply for the driver position. The other position sounds like our apex division. Those guys make outstanding money but are always on the road and you are married to that job.

So I applied at Messer for the Vancouver Washington driving position and they sent me an email to take what sounds to be an automated phone interview. Kinda weird to me. Has anyone done it? They has some really interesting plants all over the us , with more than a few in small towns , which would appeal to me. The Vancouver job has been up for a while and I just applied for the hell of it, to at least get the ball rolling and getting in their system. I love the PNW and would love to live there, but cant enter canada, so I'm hoping that facility doesnt require it. I didnt see anything about needing a visa or to be canada comliant or whatever. I can get a visa, just cant enter canada do to a the only punch I've ever thrown 22 years ago. Pretty excited! I even though about appliying to Air Products in Bountiful Utah and moving back there. Praxair in Garfield is ALWAYS hiring an that raises to many red flags for me. Ive heard they laid off drivers quite a bit

Ok just did it . you click on the link in the email and it takes to a page where You fill out a quick questionnaire asking about your CDL, experience, right to work in the US. Then then it asks you to call a number and gives you a pin# you call and enter the PIN and it will ask you 5 questions and it will also display the questions on the page that gave you the phone number.
It asks the questions twice and puts them on the screen for you and gives you 3 minutes to answer.
Theres one about have you teamed and would you be interestested.
One is what do you like about driving.
One is about any violations, accidents tickets, awards, ect.
One is about how you would handle a breakdown or a set back.and I dont remember the Last. Just really basic questions that would have been answered if Messer had actually had you fill out a full application to begin with. and then it ends and thanks you.

You dont get to redo it, and you dont get to edit you answers.

I probably bombed it. I dont like talking on the phone and I paused several times as I tried to formulate my answer.

Air products also has a terminal in Puyallup, WA. Phone interviews although live, usually are standard practice in cryo. Since you are dealing with global companies, who's main business is far from just transportation. This is just to filter out folks that dont meet the requirements. Then you move onto an actual live interview.

    LilRedRidingHood and scythe08 Thank this.
