The merging point between the freeway and the on-ramp can be frustrating at times, but here are some techniques I follow:
    • Scan way ahead for traffic that may soon get on the freeway. If you see several vehicles turn left, you probably want to safely change lanes to avoid them (if possible).
    • If there are multiple lanes, avoid the right lane, but certainly do not impede the traffic by driving slower than the flow of traffic or below the speed limit.
    • Memorize or keep notes of freeway exits or mile markers that are known for lots of merging traffic, and avoid the right lane when in those areas.
I just realized I’ve written about this in the past. Here it is.

If you are allowed to merge left yes, that’s the rule to avoid the on-ramp turtles, the issue is 4 wheelers love to hand out on your left or decide to speed up when you turn your blinker on, or even a row of cars 3ft from each other driving past you not allowing you to merge. California is notorious for this, I constantly see 4 wheelers in the truck lanes going slower then trucks causing issues with you merging since everyone else is at 65-70 yet your stuck at 50 and we all know merging into a lane that’s doing 65 when traveling 50 is the issue.

In what states does the law require existing traffic to move over when merging traffic refuses to or is somehow unable to merge? Nobody in front, nobody behind, nobody else anywhere around for miles, car ACCELERATES from a half mile away like a rocket off the feeder to GET NEXT TO ME, then sits there, driving onto the shoulder, making direct eye contact. Could have accelerated more to get in front, could have accelerated less to fall in behind. With those subconscious trajectory calculation skills, could have joined the Blue Angels. But decides to do this instead.

Another point I forgot to mention is the traffic merge signs. We see them all the time, but we may have forgotten that they can come in handy when determining if you should stay on the right lane or change lanes.

The sign on the right, as we all know, indicates that the merging traffic will be forced to merge to the freeway soon. However, the sign on the left indicates—usually—that their lane will not come to an end, which is good to know as you don’t have to slow down as much and at times none at all. This lane can sometimes continue on for miles, can sometimes become part of the main freeway for a very long distance, and can sometimes exit off the freeway very soon. So, you may still need to pay close attention to this sign, but from my experience, I don’t have to worry too much about the merging traffic whenever I see that sign.

only if people speed up to highway speeds that would solve a lot of issues.

The sign on the left and right are dandy great for drivers to understand but still some driver don’t understand that merging into any lane when your not going the speed of that lane is an issue.

I had cars dart out of that left sign situation right into my lane causing some issues of me braking hard. No matter the situation stupid multiplies faster then smart.

It means slow down if you're scared, none of them want to look scared. Traffic is stupid and seems to be a competition of who can do the dumbest #### at the dumbest time.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Learn to vent but not lose your cool. I curse a lot and talk a lot of crap. I’m good at it. No one but the camera hears me and as long as I’m not actually having road rage all is well.
If they do call I’ll talk crap to them. Learn to cope learn to smile and laugh because it’s never really as bad as it seems buddy.
They’re stupid and it might make ya mad for a minute make a joke out of them and let it go
