Finance industry, a good friend of mine who’s been in it for ever is deciding to open up an office near my neck of the woods, and needs someone. I told him i cant give this job up until my monthly gross can be replaced so that i can keep the roof over my head and he’s ok with it. They have many people from my area wanting to get things done but they dont have a rep out here, So they are wiling to work with me on my schedule until i can replace my income and be full time, this is the good thing about it that i like. I can literally work out of my truck until i can get things going.

That’s the thing some people like yourself have made the decision to be a trucker because you like it, i on the other hand made it to keep roof over my families head, so my loyalties is more towards go where the money is. I personally wouldn’t miss trucking but i sure as hell dont shy away from work.

    Thanks guys for the feedback.

You have to do what is best for you and your family. I consider myself lucky in so far as I get to drive a truck Monday-Friday and I am home every afternoon. My pay for 2019 will either be in the high 80's or low 90's. I will know for sure tomorrow when I see my last paycheck on line. And I'm a company driver not an O/O.

I took a paycut to go otr from a 9-5 office job. I was tired of staring at a computer all day. Run a regional route now, so home on the weekends. It's a nice middle ground for me.

But it ain't like trucking is going anywhere, so I would give it a shot and see if you like it.

I had a county library job in Frederick, from the Vocational State side of the school. Pull 54 new books from dumbwaiter. Break out the labels and stickers. Enter each book purchased into library, county computer database. Add barcodes to books, Add pockets tot hem Add coveres to some. Rubber stamp all. Hither thither and yon.

It was not a bad job for the first 3.35 minimum wage 5 hour daily 5 days a week in my senior year with three days of schooling eliminated. I had tested out to 12.1 grade level and met math minimums therefore there was nothing in terms of class to take except two. A bit of history in one and researching in another which was something that was rubber banded together to pass for a course. It did not really matter at that point at 20 I was aging out with a diploma anyhow.

The money was really good in those days I think .95 gasoline to start off.

If you get to missing trucking just log in here every once in awhile. All the screaming and yelling will make you feel like you're out there on the road again.

Im pretty sure I can belly up to that man's Counter space, slosh some coffee, light a smoke and start carrying on about the stupid shipper in this phone and the demanding wife in the other phone.

I can probably locate some old time truckstop images that would really put the nostalgia on the person be it him or her.

Longdranger, you will find people like Reo to be esteemed and treasured for what they have managed to retain all these years long before any of us were alive.
