Well I love my current company but it’s time to move on. They’ve always been willing to work with my home time requests in the past but are now denying it saying they can’t. I requested one week off after being out for 2 months. Talked to my dm’s boss and he told me the same so I respectfully told them I love driving for them but I love my family more and put in my two weeks notice.

I have 10 months OTR experience hauling reefer. X and T endorsements on license. 1 minor preventable from my first month solo(trailer clipped a mirror backing into a spot). 1 ticket for going down a load zoned road(no points). Home zip is 75831. Looking to keep hauling reefer or maybe give tankers a try. Wanting a company that doesn’t mind me taking a week off if I stay out for a couple months or more.

I’ve done some research on here and looking at DOT Transportation so far. They seem to be a good company with flexible home time options. Any other ideas are greatly appreciated.

It might be too late for this, but I’d wait until I had a full 12 months in. That would open up some more options..

I drive for J Rayl, out of the Sunnyvale, TX terminal. Good outfit, been with them for a year and I haven’t missed a weekend home yet. They also run out of a drop yard in Houston.

I’m going to talk to them in person whenever they route me back to the yard and try to work things out. I think there’s a chance if I go in with a respectful attitude and talk with the right person. I don’t drive for a mega and they’ve always been accommodating in the past. I’d gladly stay if they’ll work with me on this. I don’t need to be home every weekend. I’m the type that actually prefers to stay out 2-3 months then take a week off.

Well just an update: They routed me back to the terminal early and I got a chance to talk with someone higher up. After reviewing my history with the company and explaining the situation, he said he saw no reason why they would want me to quit or why my home time request had been denied. He said he would talk with a few people and be in touch. Hopefully this means I can continue my employment and take my time off.

I’m not sure why so many drivers seem scared to stand up for themselves to the office staff. Without us, they don’t have a job! If you’re a good employee who does your job well, be respectful but know your self worth and stand firm! They can label me a whiner if they want, but I’d rather be that than the driver that kept his mouth shut and lost his family in the process.
