Is it legal to haul lumber boards unsecured in a dry van?

That's got to be a serious pain to unload.

 

Anything is legal tell you’re caught.

 

Kinda like loading a boxcar I guess.

 

It’s legal to load that material in a dry van or reefer trailer, but what’s not safe is not using straps or load locks for the last pallet. Also, depending on the height of the pallet and the space between the pallet and the trailer wall, you may need to insert an air bag to prevent the pallet from tilting.

I’ve had several receivers that did not have docks, and they would use a chain or rope to pull the pallets to the rear of the trailer.

 

He’s not talking about pallets of product. He is talking about units of lumber. Hard to tell in his picture but Im guessing they’re 2x6’s or 2x8’s. He would have to clarify but Im guessing they shoved anywhere from 8 to 12 units in there.

 

I loaded lots of containers like that. Fact is, my brakes, combined with the crappy chassis brakes, wouldn't hold the pushing and I had to block the wheels. I put a little sand on the floor so the bundles would slide easier. They were banded together. That was a steel container, and not sure how you'd secure them anyway, they were tight agin the walls. I don't think they would go anywhere. I never had a problem, and yeah, I'd hate to unload it.

 

i picked up 5,200 ferns hand stacked in homestead once. them mexicans had that trailer loaded in 4 hours

 

here at wm. our gm freight is floor stacked. like 2,500 pieces. they have 2.5 hours to unload the trailer.

 

It Appears they were "Floor loaded" . No pallet underneath? Appears they were metal banded together at least.Would " venture to say" . ,its still an "Unsecured Load Ticket" waiting to happen. Without a few straps by the doors,metal bands could bust and heavy missile of boards bust thru the back doors in an accident? JMO
