When i did a lease i calculated fuel consumption on route we ran by tripping fuel counter on dash. We had 20 different contracts we ran on the regular. Definetly wanna run your tach near peak torque range and keep turbo boost low. Follow the truck ahead of you 4 sec watch your fuel go up the draft helps. If you know how much fuel to buy to complete the route you can max your payroll . Calculate your tolls if you pay them. Example PA toll for me is .61 mile x miles you plan to travel on them = revenue lost on the load. It cost me 163 gal of fuel to run a route i do pays 1300 and another route that pays 1050 on 50gals . So with that info i can calculate how much money i make on that route. Take notes on all your routes so when disp ask if you want a load A or B you know how much your gonna make on that load. A maybe more money but B is more profitable after fuel tolls etc. I did a lease yrs ago. I lost a rearend , Cam, 3 DPF filters 3 sets of tire Steers Drives, Pm every 14k , Turbo , Many computer data link hookups from KW to read sensors. Yea i ate PBJs but i completed the lease with 12k buyout. Then sold that truck to some flip floppers from CA

Pay for the oil change if you can . I pay $ 120 including filters. If i find a dry parking lot i grease the truck myself. I save $148. Ill drop that $148 savings in fuel and make more $$ off of of it. Not all grease sert get greased in a shop so do it yourself save the money. I get my fuel filters at Truck Pro . They give me a fleet discount when i buy by the case i save huge doing that. . Wal marts for oil . Farm and fleets for batteries diesel additive are all cheaper than truck stops. I get Air Filters for $54 at a mom pops oil change place near my home. Baldwins . 5 Star lube in Anna OH I 75 exit 99

Are you encouraging someone to follow at 4 seconds from the rear end of the truck in front of them, just to get a little fuel economy from drafting?

I hope not, because that would be dangerous and stupid.

    spyder7723 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

Why . If your going at a reasonable speed its not dangerous . Fmcsa recommends 4 sec unless adverse road conditions or higher speeds then that rule is adjusted. How long have you been a cdl holder you dont know that

That explains it . I heard the thread count or twist on a paccar was 1 of a kind . So they could fix the price

4 seconds is not safe. A full second is gone before you can react to anything, and another second before you can push the brakes and have them start to engage.

So you have two seconds between you and the truck ahead of you, and THEY have already been braking for 2 seconds...

In that scenario, if the truck in front is braking hard, there's a #### good chance somebody is going to die.

If you look at wherever you saw that information, it is likely for 4-wheelers with hydraulic brakes, OR it says a truck can come to a full stop in 4 seconds, but is not considering reaction time, foot movement, and air system operation.

EDIT ADD: FMCSA indicates that in ideal conditions, a commercial vehicle driver should leave a gap of 1 second per 10 feet of their vehicle length. For most of us, that's 6 or 7 seconds.

Why . If your going at a reasonable speed its not dangerous at all. Do you know
Ok so basically your looking for somebody to argue with . You know better and more than anybody. And you follow the law to the T .
