It's funny because mommy, i mean my stupervisor, calls/texts me on the phone----and expects me to answer immediately----no matter if i'm driving or in the middle a 4-way intersection.

Now, this is the same visor that said i should not be using the diad while driving---they can trace that thru telematics.

See, what they do is text/call you on THEIR PERSONAL PHONES TO YOUR PERSONAL PHONE, but DON'T use the diad or e-log because in case of accident, the company is going to check if the diad or e-log was/was not in use during the accident. This can be easily traced by the company. Personal phones, not so easy.

And like the schmuck i am, i do exactly what mommy wants me to do..........

The slip-and-fall lawyer on the other hand can and will subpoena your phone records if anything happens.

If your that sleepy you don't need to be on the road. I agree our training program is nothing short of a joke.

They do at my terminal in the Southeast but imo they don't do a good job properly training the new guys.

you actually had some kind of linehaul training down there?!? NICE!

yeah every. single. morning I was hours late because of stupid mistakes and issues that a week of training would have *mostly* prevented... maybe, the not being able to stay awake was a problem for me but the total lack of training, no resources to reach out to... ugh.

It's in the past now. I'm working the dock until a P&D run opens back up.

lol they'll see the UPS supervisor's personal # on the call log, subpoena that, then figure out it's a pattern... driver gets fired, supervisor gets fired, I don't see how UPS can dodge that bullet since the driver & supervisor are small fish compared to the $$$ UPS corporate has...

I'm glad I held the line. Idc what "mommy" wants. I ain't answering the phone while I'm driving unless I have a working hands free headset.

Saia's is pretty straight forward, couple hours of videos and test on them, then put with the driver trainer, training is five days, first two days is just ride and observe, the trainer let me take over the third day and finish the week while he observed.

What "training" program? i remember my first time on the dock after a while at a hub. i busted a case of beer and that was bad enough, but then ALMOST PUT A FORK THRU SOMEONE'S LEG! All in the name of NUMBERS, NUMBERS, NUMBERS, NUMBERS.

We're not an LTL freight company anymore. We're a NUMBERS company........

My theory is that corporate is telling the stupervisors and manajerks that they can't use the diad. This can be easily monitored by the company. But personal cellphones can't/aren't. They are riding on the ASSumption that you probably WON'T get into an accident because they(stupervisors) know that people use the phone all the time when driving---it happens. And they're willing to take that risk to make the NUMBERS. So, they use the personal cell to get around the diad.

If it comes down to it----and you really got in a serious accident, they would likely deny that they ever said you should answer the phone while driving----which is technically true.

It sucks that the government has applied such a ridiculous number of regulations to this industry, and that slip-and-fall lawyers have tilted the scales so heavily against drivers and employers... unfortunately it pits me against my employer when it's a question of speeding (i.e. breaking the law) like everyone else to make the delivery: I have only one license, but there are hundreds of companies, and millions of regulations.

    It's a terrible catch-22, and awful incentives.

Matters not. You’re still the one driving the truck. That alone is what makes one hosed by default.
