Came across 90w Cle Elum, Wa towards Tacoma this morning and had a little chat with WaSP.
I had just started my 11/14 clock about 45min prior, having stayed in the west side rest area for my break.
Passed the state coops.. locked up.
Came to the overhead sign in RED saying "Traction Tires Advised NO OVERSIZE" , Good deal.
Then there was the LED message board overhead reading of winter driving conditions and speed reduced to 55MPH. Got it.
I'm easing west bound, in no hurry, 55,57,58,55, 53.. and so on.
Roads just wet.. no slush.
After I go through the new tunnel they built and the road opens up to 4 lanes plus a chaining area, THE WORLD LIT UP.
WaSP was sitting on the other side of the wall. He flipped and got in behind me. I was like "wtf did I do?.
Went off the ramp at the DOT yard and he came to the door and said he clocked me at 60/45.
My jaw dropped and I told him that the overhead sign read 55mph.
I know better than to argue at roadside, so it remained polite and professional.
He came back to the door with a citation for 50/45 ,but listed actual speed 60/45.
He also did a half fake level 3.
Never looked at a log.
Never touched a trailer registration.
Just filled it out.
On the Level3 he listed in the violation column 60/45.
When it was over, I got back on 90w and 1/2 mile later at the base of Snoqualmie Pass was the next overhead sign.
It had 45MPH on it.
Then the roadway started to be covered in slickery.
One of two things happened.
*Either they changed it to 45 AFTER I went past the other sign (someone is always gonna be in no man's land)
Or,
*He was patrolling the Pass where it was 45 and wrote me for it even though i hadn't hit the 45 zone yet.
First ticket in 20 years.
I don't drive that way.
I told my wife and she said, "You're lying! You drive like an old man".
So, if anyone can recommend a good attorney in Cle Elum, or Ellensburg, for the Upper Kittitas court... I need some help.
IM NOT GUILTY.
100% positive it said 55.
Then, well have to DataQ it.
That's a monster.
I guess I'll fight it.

Well, you psp is gonna get some points. At least the ticket wasn't 15 over. But yeah, fight it!
NavigatorWife, Dave_in_AZ and jammer910Z Thank this. -
Good luck!
Not for nothing, but get a dash cam, if you don’t have it yet. Get the one with gps and speed on the footage. That’s one 1 have and it saved my ### already big time. -
I think @Scooter Jones is in the pnw somewhere. Maybe he knows a attorney.
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
I would take a dashcam or camcorder and drive thru there again and bring video to court, maybe that will help.
Dave_in_AZ and jammer910Z Thank this. -
You can call Roadlaw they are the ones ooida sends their members to, sounds like a money grab from the state but a bad deal on insp. report?
Dave_in_AZ and jammer910Z Thank this. -
A good dashcam would have helped your case. But that goes without saying.
Dave_in_AZ and jammer910Z Thank this. -
OP, my guess is the pass had been at 45 for a while and that’s where he had been patrolling. You drew the lucky number to get a raw deal. Might be worth signing up to TVC or whatever those services are for this one.jammer910Z and Doealex Thank this. -
I'll def have footage of the entire path I took. Doubts on what good it will do, but it won't hurt.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
When we were on the ramp, two snow plows were behind us as he was finishing up and they were too wide to safely pass us.
Troop brought me the cite, in the dark, told me it was for 5 over (which it was), and said he'd done a level 3.
He said, "when you get back in your truck just take on off" presumably so these plows can get by.
Had I had sufficient time to look at the paperwork at roadside I DEFINITELY would have gone back east and checked that sign again to see if it had changed since my pass under it.
I didn't look at the paperwork until Tacoma. That's where I saw the inspection listed the speed violation at 15 over. -
First thing I did while he was in his unit writing me up was go back through my footage.
I have light sensitive eyes and had placed a hand towel over the screen of my GPS/DashCam combo to filter the glare.
Sometimes it bothers me... most times not.
The corner of the towel had dropped over and blocked the cam lens.
I kept looking at the footage wondering why I could only see the bottom 1/3 of the frame. Thought the cam was going bad.
Then it dawned on me what it was.
I'M A GENIUS.D.Tibbitt, Dave_in_AZ, TankerP and 1 other person Thank this.
