    I measure 4 sec from rear bumper . Try it , its about a truck lenghth 1/2. Its also DOT recomended and no less than 4sec. More based on weather weight and other contributing factors look it up

    I don't need to look it up. I know for a fact a truck can not go from 65 mph to a full stop in a truck and a half length. A controlled full stop at highway speeds requires a lot more distance than that.

    Yes I realise that in today's age it's hard to believe anyone inspects and maintains their equipment, but their are a few of us left. Some of us even know what a grease gun is and use it every weekend.

    On that note, here's a little money saving tip for ya: spend 15/20 bucks on an infrared temp gun. Keep it in your door pocket and every time you stop to use the restroom or refill your coffee cup. Walk around temp checking tires and hubs.

    It might be DOT recommended in a instruction manual from 1960.

    Well not to change the argument. But if you did like the Russian dude I saw getting popped by the marshal's years ago, stole fuel, that would greatly lower your operating costs, for awhile.

    Leaving a good 7ish seconds allows you time not to slam on the brakes and possibly jackknife or hit another vehicle alongside your truck/trailer.

    Hitting the shoulder only works if you have a decent one to use. Even then your driving over all the crap that gets deposited there.

    Hell, stealing fuel from other trucks probably won't get anyone killed. I'd almost rather see someone advocating stealing fuel than following at 4 seconds at interstate speeds.
