I did that once but I managed to crank it up and rehook. After that a tug test wasn't enough for me. I stuck my head under and looked to make sure the jaws were locked.
D.Tibbitt, FerrissWheel, jammer910Z and 1 other person Thank this. -

A tug test will seem good, when it's not actually good to go.
I always bend over and look.jammer910Z, rachi and FerrissWheel Thank this. -
I visually check after hooking up and throughout the course of the day I do a tug and a visual check, once saw a guy up in Missouri parked at a Walmart come out and someone had pulled the release while the truck was parked driver got in started up pulled off got a few feet and wham dropped the trailer
rachi, Moosetek13 and FerrissWheel Thank this. -
I started checking after i had one that didn't click just right. Sure enough it was half hooked.
Probably had 5 or 6 in the last 5 years that came up half hook. I always crawled under ever since.rachi Thanks this.
