Driving through Oregan. Does anyone know how many pairs of snow tire chains I am required to carry in my 18 wheeler truck?
Thank you in advance

As a general rule for an 18 wheeler you'll need 4 pair.
I'll attach a snapshot of the placement of proper chain placement on tires (SIX) plus two spare = 8.okiedokie and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
Lots of us only put on two drives and a drag in most situations and are not bothered by enforcement, but this is NOT a guarantee.
You must carry the required amount and produce them upon request or face a fine.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -

I've heard they are being much stricter on the drag chains ( trailer) this year.

I've been searching high and low for the past 20 min for concrete proof of Oregon minimum "must have" on hand and can't find documentation on any of the state sites.
Plenty of info saying how many must be installed and where (6 on a standard semi), that leads me to stand behind having 2 spares totalling 8.
I wouldn't go cheap and risk a cite to save buying one bag. You'll need them anyway when you break the others because Oregon likes to make you run them in ridiculous conditions. -
There's often a deputy in the chain area walking around.
I bet you just jinxed me.
Better start going 2/2MOBee, Dave_in_AZ, DelLaz and 1 other person Thank this. -
But I've talked to 3 different guys that have been cited for drags this year.REO6205, D.Tibbitt, DelLaz and 1 other person Thank this. -
This was the OR230 yesterday. Snow just about to the tops of the mirrors. They got the unimog blower up there.
PE_T, blairandgretchen, okiedokie and 4 others Thank this.
