Google says a 235/85r17 is 617 rpm and the 225/70r19.5 is 648 rpm.

    RPM is revolutions per mile.

The diameter of the new tires is slightly different so in theory there should be a small change in what RPM the truck rides at certain speeds. You said the speedo is still functional so it’s probably not enough to notice the difference in your gauges.

That sounds backwards unless the diameter of the 19.5" tires is actually smaller than the 17" tires, which I don't think is the case. The larger tire will spin less revolutions per mile.

Its how many times the tire turns in a mile.
If you put a chalk mark on the side of it at the edge of the tread right at the ground and rolled it one revolution so the mark is at same spot at ground and measure that. That is the circumference of tire. Your 19.5’s will do that 648 times to travel a mile.
19.5 wheel size diamater is larger than the 17’s but with your tire size overall circumference is not.
Faster tire turns per mile faster speedo reads so you can possibly be reading 65 and are actually going 63.7 hence the better mpg’s

I left out in my last reply that since the 19.5’s have more revs per mile than the old 17’s they are actually shorter in height than the old 17’s. Taller tires take less revs to cover a mile.
