I went up to Manheim Lakeland today an bought a few vehicles for our dealership up in NY.
I saw green connectors on all the ALDL connectors today when I was checking out vehicles and wondered why they had them on there.
When I went to pick up my gate passes they showed me how to load an app on my phone and plug in the number from the gate pass and pin point exactly where the vehicles were on the property and how far it was to each one.
This is really a nice system and works very well.
It should be a real time saver when loading at night and especially at big auctions like Manheim PA and Ocoee.
I think they said they have been using it for about five months or so but it’s the first time that I had seen it.

I wish all dealers would experience the system, now you can pretty much walk in a direct path to the car in the freezing weather to find the car that needs a jump or is out of gas. Manhiem must be under pressure to make the free labor in auto transport a more enjoyable experience. Who ever said ELD wouldnt lead to a more productive workday for drivers.

Little Rock you go by lot number then assigned parking spot. Easy peasy. 1000 cars and trucks every week. No one lost any yet. Just remember that C means Crain, those cars are either catching fire, about to burn or break in a variety of ways if you can get them started or even stopped. You wont believe how many used caddies show up with no brakes due to neglect from owners when they learn just how much it will take to fix them.

As a dealer/car hauler I can say the assigned spot is definitely helpful.
But what happens a lot of times is some lazy person doesn’t what’s to walk out to where their car is parked because it’s raining, dark, cold ect. so they use your car as a taxi to get them out to where their car is parked.
With Out a tracking system this leaves your car lost in a sea of what could be thousands of cars.
I have experienced this many times in the last 20 years and am very thankful for the new system.

    Good question.

As a Temp boss of a crew working on the big rig side in bad weather I have had dealers come up to me and say fetch my car out of there and bring it to me here.

I would theatrically lean around the dealer and survey the 1000 cars with a sweep of the arm and tell him Im responsible for 22 people. You fetch your own car SIR.

They usually stomp off. But generally do that only once.

So why do dealers expect drivers to deal with lost cars ect. When they arent compensated at all for those issues then after two hours of searching they threaten to cancel the load if you cant find it. At least they should be thanking and apologizing for wasting your time.

Good Question but your asking the wrong person.
I first put on my dealer hat and buy a load of cars for our dealership (mostly online remoteing in to a live auction) then usually that night or the next day I roll out with the tractor and trailer and pick them up and bring them home.
So you can see I am on both sides of the fence.
I have been that driver in zero degree weather in the dark searching for a car that I own but can’t find.
It’s actually a little bit worse for me because I don’t have the luxury of calling the dealer ( myself ) and saying I can’t find your car and I can’t look anymore.
One way or another I not leaving without my car.
This is why I absolutely love the new tracking system.

Even though this isn't in place at the Manheims I visit, even the "last scanned location" is a major help over the old way.

Do you think this could be just a Florida thing?
Maybe they are beta testing it down there?
We left Lakeland and took my wife’s fiat spider over to Manheim Tampa to put thru the auction next week and they installed one of the trackers on her car when they took it in..
It’s a pretty cool system for sure.
With the tracker # I can be up in ny and see on my phone exactly where our car is positioned in Florida.

I believe that was the beta, with rollout systemwide this year. Pretty sure that's what I read elsewhere.
