Check engine light on, dealer says SCR needs replaced, $5k for part, $8k total bill!!!! Volvo program Volvo setting aside $780M to address emissions system degradation problem but repairs must be completed, before they decide if they will pay.
Not taking that chance or paying $8k.
Found "Big Machine Parts" Volvo D13/Mack MP8 SCR BMPC0179
has SCR for $3975. Looks pretty simple to replace. Anyone have any dealings with them?
Best place to get SCR?

Dealership called me back, knew I was a bit upset, no I didn't get belligerent or scream at them. They said they can do the SCR for $4600, part of the other charges included NOX sensors, which I replaced last August, cut that $1200 from the total bill, brings it down to about $6400, still working on that.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
I seen scr performance low, and a service scr needed. What does service consist of and why does yours need to be replaced? Is that what others call a one box?
-
I think it depends on what year your truck is, for what a service consists of. Mine needs replaced because the emissions system was not serviced by the leasing company that originally owned it, at the correct intervals listed in the service manual, before I bought it. Mine is a 2016 with 560,000 miles on it, and is not the one box which is newer. Mine has the DPF and SCR separated, the one box has them both in one unit. It takes up less space and may be lighter. I just found out that Volvo won't cover it through their early emissions degradation program because it has over 500,000 miles.

Wish I had heard from you a day earlier. Already have the new one installed.
Back story; I bought the truck last June, 2016 VNL, from auction, for $25k, (most were selling for $35+) with 520,000 miles, so I figured it was a good deal. I got all service records and am familiar with maintenance of that fleet, which did not include any emissions system work as called for in the manual.
Got on the road (after company paperwork) on August 1st, immediately got check engine light, long story short, over the last 5 months I have replaced DPF (too far gone to clean) NOX sensors, injectors and cups, 7th injector, EGR cooler, and now SCR. Without going back to add all that up, it's $15k -$20k. Asked about Volvo program for early degradation of emission system, told it's over the 500k cutoff. I'm planning to contact Volvo directly about that.
I do have one other weird thing going on, since EGR cooler was replaced, my coolant temp doesn't go over 160-170, except on a long grade at low speed, where it will climb to 200 and the fan will come on. I asked them to replace thermostat, they did, but told me it still won't get any warmer than that. They suggested that since EGR is now clear it just runs freer. I'm hoping it will warm up under load, will know later today. -
Still does not warm up, runs pretty constantly at 160-170. Dealer suggestion is to get a winter front.
It does seem to pull a little better now. -
this is normal operating temp for D13 under low load and idle condition.
