The other day I dropped a empty trailer off at the shipper. My load was not ready to be picked up so I bobtail to Pilot (13 miles) on personal conveyance. Eventually someone decided to edit my log and change this to the drive line. So I looked it up and it says. Motor carriers can establish personal conveyance limitations.
Now I am at a different shipper waiting for a live load. Depending on when I move this truck it will put me on the drive line and I will start my break all over again. This is appropriate because I have movies, video games, a microwave, refrigerator, a grill and several bottles of propane.
Another load is scheduled for relay after I have this load. However if I move this truck and I am placed on the drive line and I will have to start my break again the scheduled relay will not happen. I probably could use pc but since the motor carrier has established limitations I have decided not to use it. So I don't see anything where the carrier can force me to use pc to move the truck to avoid having to restart my break. Even with the loading dock a short distance I could go very slow and it might not change. Which is my best option so I can still make it on time for the relay.
So I am wondering if anyone from the company can question me about the use of pc or is it optional for me. I don't see anything that indicates the carrier can force me to use pc. 20200104_130312.jpg

PC is for going to a safe haven. If the customer will not allow you to remain at their facility, then it should be allowed for you to use it to get to the nearest safe haven.

You can reject the edits done to your log. There is no defined millage limit for PC. It is up to the motor carrier to set and impose additional restrictions if desired.

They should have a clear policy on when it is allowed and limits of use. We ask our guys to call in during the day if they need to use it, or email after hours.

Thanks Mike250rs I remember when the edit came across my screen which is when I decided not to use it anymore. But now I am kind of in a peculiar situation. I am in sb hopefully for at least 8 hrs. If I move I risk starting my clock. But if I use pc then I have to wait 10 hrs. Even though the delivery is 180 miles I try to do my best option. It seems companies are paying more attention to this now that we have the ELD. I think the dm is new also and he didn't understand why I used pc. Probably should have called and explain to the rookie.

Safe Haven is a Hazmat term.

PC is used for ... going to a hotel or getting food or something like that.

This makes more sense now because I was wondering why not edit the trip to pilot and the return trip to the shipper? So when I left the shipper I was off duty but when

It depends. If you dropped a trailer at a meat plant, you are allowed to use PC to go to Walmart, a restaurant, etc. You can also return back using PC. Now, a situation where you cannot return back is if you finished working for the week and used PC from your company’s property to your home. You are allowed to PC home, but you are not allowed to return back 2 days later using PC as you will be returning to work. There is an FMCSA guidance regarding this very issue.

The other point worth mentioning is that PC limitations are set by your company. In other words, companies can make PC stricter than what FMCSA says, and many mega fleets often do.

And if you abuse PC, your company can take it away, I'm waiting for my boss to do this now, as I have a coworker who abuses it
