Perhaps some of you aren't familiar with the fact that some CDL training programs REQUIRE the student to obtain pre-hire letter(s) as part of their program.
I received a full grant from a local job placement agency 10 years ago at a community college where I live for their 4 week CDL training program.
Part of the process prerequisites was to obtain 2 separate pre-hire letters from 2 different trucking companies. Which I did. Neither of which I went to work for.

The preferred method is to cash or WOIA state support for trucking school. Get the CDL on your own.
The constant efforts of individual companies to control and reduce freedoms of those who wish to become truckers is gaining traction. And it's unnecessary. -
Get a pre-hire from the common carriers that recruit from the school your going to attend once approved by WOIA. There will be lots of them. Call the school to help. Don't waste time on companies who want to contract you into servitude. Get on with one that will pay you a bonus as a new driver since your schooling was already paid for.

Perhaps you should reread what I wrote.
I received a full FREE $5,000 grant (thank you tax-payers) to obtain my 160 hours of "training" at a local community college.
The prehire letters are as a prerequisite were to insure, in part, the grant money wasn't a complete waste and that the grantee was reasonably committed to the process.
It had NOTHING to do with "individual companies" wanting to control the process and reduce freedoms". LOLslim shady Thanks this. -
I'll add this. There were 3 of us in that class that received grants. 1 guy quit before the end of the 4 weeks. The other guy lasted 4 mos on the road and quit trucking altogether. Went back to IT consulting

The majority of 1st year drivers do NOTHING beyond a 30 second Google search before signing a 1 year contract and then telling everyone but the company they plan on breaking that contract within 30 seconds of getting their CDL or the first time they have to work on a Saturday.
They think OTR trucking is like working their last job except they get to bring a bed with them. They learn it's very different and that unlike their last job the boss won't rub their feet and give them time off to call their mommy because they are having a bad day.jeff18 Thanks this. -
That recruiter gave you some good advice, why would anyone want to hire you when you just going to leave in a month or two?
12 months is no time at all, you will barely have the basics down, stick with the same company, this whole idea of freedom to jump around will leave you with having to list several different companies on your first thee months of employment.
You will have more experience going through orientation after orientation than you will with driving a truck.Heather406 Thanks this. -

Never sign any contract. If the company can't retain you on it's company merits to keep it's employees happy and well treated, then walk away. It's a two way street, not one. They expect performance, so should you.
