I had a wall mounted one growing up for years. I'd like to think I got pretty good at being quick at it. Never thought of it as a trouble at all.

But I guess it's like being really skilled at a telegraph.

oh god, yeah, if you got clocked with one of these, your lights went out for a few hours.

not to mention the crater sized crack in yer head..

them SOB's weighed so much, you could put it in the trunk of you car during the winter and get better traction to the rear wheels. (not too many front wheel drive cars back in the day)

I still have five of those phones. Made between 1937 and 1945. Built to last, work like new, much better sound quality than any cell phone I've ever owned -- as long as the landline has been maintained, that is.

If you have to deal with an automated system, just use your Pocket Tone Dialer. I have one. It works great, but it runs the batteries down really fast, so it's better to take them out until you're actually going to use it.

I can't believe I have to explain this stuff, but probably many of you have forgotten how controversial Caller ID was when it came out, so I probably shouldn't be that surprised that you don't remember the Pocket Tone Dialer. My dad was an early adopter of high tech equipment, which is why I know so much about it.

Lol, and here I thought a Pocket Dialer was a euphemism.
