What's good drivers? Im looking for some insight. I plan on switching to tanker after 15yrs flatbedding. Already have my endorsements and whatnot. I live in Nashville. I'm in search of a tanker company that trains but is also a good overall company to drive for. I have 4 other mouths to feed. Lol.
I also what to expect in all aspects of tanker life, from pay to customers and everything in between. All information is appreciated. I'm also going through the forum as much as possible.
    Thanks in advance

If you have fifteen years pulling flatbed, you won't require any driving training.

The only difference in pulling tanks and pulling freight that is strapped down is that you'll want to slow below the posted speed recommendations for off ramps and curves. Slowing sooner in order to stop is also a must.

Liquid surge is no big deal if you handle your rig like a veteran driver. It's really a matter of timing your shifting so as to reduce surge primarily for your comfort.

The only training required would be connecting the correct hoses to the correct outlet. And dealing with HazMat if you want to haul fuel or nasty chemicals.

Tell you what, you'll never go back to flatbed. Smooth bore tankers, like milk or other single product trailers, take some getting used to, especially half filled ones, but most places deal with full loads, and a full tanker is pretty stable. Tankers with baffles, you hardly know it's back there. Tankers take a bit more common sense than most other forms of trucking, but, I feel, it's the best trucking job you can have. Whatever you do, don't forget to open the top,

Some of us were forced to. My ex'boss lost his 5 truck fleet to his wife in the divorce. I should've bought the dang farm out, contracts and all. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Still kick myself. Daily. Petes, shop, tanks, just dam me.

I wish you well, good sir. I pulled asphalt (6122 and 3257) all over Ohio, for about 5 years; best job in my almost 30'ot. Respect. 4th is your friend; or well at least it was mine.

Pulling tanks in an AMT, no clue; wouldn't think of it. Following your thread, for sure!

Just passing by and TheBigCat Thank this.
