Now that's another thing I considered. FedEx, UPS, USPS, Amazon, where and how does one apply for those?

Look online, call, show up at a job fair. Look for ones that have a driving school.many offer a short school where you have a cdl but little to no experience. This is the time where freight levels usually start going up.

If you are determined to make it work, then it will work. Other trucks deliver there and don't hit stuff, you can do it too.

I do not do the Dollar General stuff, but I started on a dedicated account where I do picks up in the same areas as a lot of those Dollar stores. Sometimes I'll park right next to those trucks for the night and we both go and do our thing in the morning.

A lot of people screw up, yes. But that doesn't mean you have to. I've been doing that for 2 years and still gainfully employed and fully hirable. It's not true that no one ever lasts, it's just a blanket statement saying most people screw up and that's because they don't care, or they are lazy, or both.

I've trained on my account lazy turds and older guys that care. I think I have trained like 8 people over the last 2 years, something like that. At least 3 of them are still driving on our fleet.

It's hard work, but you don't have to be all hardcore and bust your ### like all the new drivers try to do. It's better if you pace yourself. Not only will you feel better at the end of the day, but you reduce your chances of having accidents while unloading, and you won't burn out as quickly. Also, it doesn't really save that much time being all hyper.

Again, I don't do the DG, but I see those locations daily all over the country. It's doable. The job can put you in good shape and you can make some decent money for your first year, and it's good driving experience.

You might even make a friend teaming with one of those guys. A LOT of guys where I work keep in touch, some talk to each other daily, and I keep in touch with a couple of guys.

Mostly I just want to know what they are up to, but it's also networking, I guess. One of them is a patched biker. Who knew that I would EVER have an acquaintance in an MC? If you told me that two years ago, I'd laugh.

I seriously thought about doing DG, just for the exercise. I've seen some of their lots and I can be as patient as anyone (most days). I don't think they pay enough for an O/O, though.

I just skimmed your post and a few replies so pardon me if I got the wrong info. Dollar general neighborhood stores are known to be very tight. And you mentioned you’re from Newark assuming NJ. That means they’re going to send you to north NJ because they can’t find any other poor sap to take this suicide run. North NJ deliver places are almost always ridiculously tight not a place for a rookie fresh on the truck. Maybe after about a year once you get the feel for the truck it’ll better your maneuvering and backing but as a fresh green rookie you’re just going to hit something or some idiot.

Just passing by and bzinger Thank this.
