I worked for Werner for a few months. I was supposed to do a dedicated dollar account. They had me train OTR, I knew almost nothing about what I was supposed to be doing. I heard so many bad things on here and elsewhere. I left right after training. Never went back for a truck assignment. I left that nonsense and drove dump truck for a summer. That season ended I went to milk hauling farm pickup specifically. Some here will tell you to stay away from milk tanker. It has its issues nearly everything does but it's not horrid.

The dollar stores we have here have side docks.

YOU WILL be backing across three lane center left divided highways to access them into parking lots while cars flow in and out around you. Hoping you will dent them to relieve them of their poverty.

If you have ever been in the back of the store and see the dock room storage piled higher than you and longer than 50 feet with workers on bad morale... you know never to work around these in trucking.

    Here's what you do.......
Get in your car and drive around for a couple of hours and go to every $ store you can find. Then at each location, ask yourself, "Could I back a 53 foot trailer and a conventional tractor with a sleeper into this spot?"
If the answer is no at any location, you shouldn't do it. Because, if you think that particular place is tough, I can promise you that there are worse.....and you don't have the option of saying no.
I've been driving for over 7 years and there is not enough money to make me want to deliver to a $ store. Plus, frankly, I don't have the skills.

I can do it. But they are going to have to PAY ME. Piles of money. Disgusting piles and piles of it. Enough to make a nest for a good nap afterwards when the unloading is all over.

Since they WONT pay me... they have to find some chump to say oh yes a thousand times yes and hop down there.

The tears will start soon enough.

Most rookies spend their first year avoiding backing the truck NO. MATTER. WHAT.

There's a reason why Dollar accounts are constantly looking for drivers and the reason is driver turnover.
If it was a good job drivers would stay with it.

I started of with Werner on a Wal-Mart account. Got the training I needed. Pay was 31 cents if I remember correctly. 750 - 900 take home. After I had three months under my belt got a reefer run with local company getting 38 cpm. 6 months later got an offer for 47 cpm. Running at 56 cpm now dry van only 3200 - 3500miles weekly. Just take it slow and get proper training.
