I hear Wal-Mart accounts are an entirely different ballgame though. In fact when I was in school people were recommending working for Wal-Mart but as far as anyone knew you couldn't get that job through Werner. All they say is OTR and the various dollar accounts. Work really hard and you may get Coca Cola in two years time. That's all any of us ever heard regarding Werner.

I got lucky. The terminal was in Tomah, WI. I was 30 miles away so I was home more often then not. Any training with the mega carriers will help you out. I know its about three months but when you get the completion cert from them almost any local guy will hire you with a 20% pay raise and you might be able to coax a nice dump truck or construction job that gets you home every night with benefits. Are you close to an airport? I've run air cargo locally. You might try getting a class b job. Here in Seattle they pay 20 - 22 an hour. Much easier to back a box truck

It’s not the DG that is the problem it’s Werner , lousy bad news company.
As far as tight small parking lots. Yes but it’s not that bad , better then many warehouses. You will be hand unloading 40,000 plus pounds of freight everyday , actually won’t won’t be unloading you will be WRESTLING 40,000 pounds of freight everyday. What if you get hurt doing this ???? I did it for about a month and for me it’s just not worth it.FloridaBoy93 Thanks this. -
We throw an average of about 1000 cases a week, about 30 lbs each, which amounts to about 30,000 lbs of freight. But it doesn't feel like 30,000. It just feels like you are throwing a bunch of 30 lb cases. -

I did it with Werner, I’m probably about to start again with hogan. Unless I bite the bullet and do otr for 6 months or so until I can get a local job...really don’t want to but I might. I am strongly considering it. DG ain’t all that bad, Werner makes it harder then it needs to be, granted the backing usually sucks, the heat down here in FL sucks and some of the store managers suck. BUT Athens work itself ain’t that hard. In my opinion at least. The hardest part is backing and staying hydrated in the heat.

Another thing bud, I know it’s local and there’s great money, but food service is worse then DG, I did it for about 2 days, I’d rather push rolltainers on DG then unload that @#$&ing food service trailer again.
Merilin Thanks this.
