We will see a little more of that now that China has absolutely halted all work for this month minimum. It will take a couple of months before shortages of products not made there this month will become apparent.

The USA is about 10 days from anarchy if you stopped all trucks, especially the food, meat, fuel and critical parts like medicines etc.

When I was growing up everyone was invested in farm production. We felt that we had enjoyed for decades a land of milk, honey and good produce etc.

All the farms are gone now, paved under and urbanized. Guess what, we need trucks and trains and ships to bring us the good things to eat and drink.

Heck, just stop the garbage trucks and sewage trucks for the average city, people would be screaming because a truck pretty much takes care of our every need....we get mail in a truck, food, water, trash collection, etc....it really is a delicate line from anarchy....

i wonder where the writer of the article got that infographic? i would love to copy it and pass it out among drivers. Drivers dont realize the power they have!

    You couldnt.

Long ago in the 80's or early 90's Memory gets imprecise at that time period. Fuel was approaching 2.00 for the first time.

At 1.99 the CB talk was raging, blue and really angry talking strike the entire USA. talk talk talk, vent vent vent.

The following morning fuel went to 2.00 from 1.99

CB radio silence. Everyone carried on as usual.

Herding cats. (That week I bought fuel at 1.30 in Jersey, unfortunately the man had filled his 3000 gallon tank at a price point to support 1.30 When word got out there was a mile of trucks in both streets waiting.

Since he could only update pricing once he lost a bunch of money delivering to refill that 3000 gallon tank every 15th truck or so.

surely we can agree that truckers are just not paid a fair wage and living/working conditions stink. Are you telling me that we cant get together on those issues and take turns shutting down one city a week for 50 weeks, lets say the capital cities of every state, no freight in or out for 7 days....surely we could make our power felt???

You will never get sizeable numbers of drivers to point into the same direction. This industry has millions of individuals who will roll because they are hungry, badly paid, even worse treated and overall just in a bad place. Why should they band together?

Drivers have the exact same amount of power as any other link in the supply chain. No more, no less. Warehouse workers don’t show up there’s nothing to haul. And when there are strikes and it affects the drivers look how bad they cry. But then they turn around and want to strike to teach everyone a lesson.

If people don’t feel like they’re fairly compensated they have the power to change their position in life if they wanted to.

In a deregulated non unionized industry for every person that strikes there is 10 who can and will take your place.

Just think all of those truckers who have built relationships with brokers for years, you think the broker will tell the shipper “hey you have to wait my usual guy is on strike” in fact the shipper will now look for other brokers.

in other words truckers strike isn’t viable if there are brokers in the mix, because they will just find someone else to take your place, and once you go back the brokers aren’t going to trust you anymore.

    simple is that.

If you notice every industry that starts is always on a downward spiral, no matter what the industry, if there is no regulation it’s happening, and since our industry is based on retail which is based on open markets then our rates are based on open markets.

Yes we have regulation on the trucks and other things regarding our jobs but none on how many can enter the workforce this is the true problem.
