My newest source of anxiety is parking my tractor-trailer while on home time. The spot I was eyeing, where a Werner driver used to park, has now been bulldozed and fenced off. There's absolutely nothing to the west of me on this here peninsula. Will start looking east of me soon. I'm anticipating a $50 one-way Uber drive (if available) eight times a month from a truck parking spot off of I-10 to my home. That will suck.

There is an antique mall about 5 minutes walking time from my house that has about a half-acre of cleared land adjacent to the paved parking lot. I'm going to write the owner a nice, grovelling letter beseeching her to allow me to rent a spot on the backside of her property. I'm thinking $100/month is reasonable if she's amiable. Thoughts? Experiences?

I'm also considering cutting down three palm trees and making a wide lane into our backyard. I think a 48' flatbed and truck will fit behind our fence. No restrictions on parking a commercial vehicle in our not-really-a-neighborhood. Unincorporated part of the county. It will be a difficult back, but I think doable. I was going to put down gravel on that side of our yard anyway because I'm sick of cutting grass.

I think south Florida has gated truck parking plazas for truck drivers. Hope that idea spreads.

Better check the soil in your neck o' the woods. You don't want to back onto a fresh cleared spot just to need a wrecker to get back out. Florida soil can be a crapshoot, depending on where you're at.

Walk in and talk to the owner of the antique mall. If you're presentable, articulate and, maybe, flattering enough, she'll probably allow you to park for free. If she does, walk in once a month with a gift card ($25-50) to a restaurant or department store in your area.

Not sure why you would expect good parking living in BFE. People move all of the time for better work and living conditions.

If you don't live 20 miles from a truck stop where you can park your own car or choose to work for a po dunk company with no terminals or parking near your home that is a poor decision you made. It's OK to move, you don't have to live near where you were born.

    Gravel yea deep.

Thats how we parked our bobtail even though we had the acreage to take a trailer or two on our home ground.

    Keep adding gravel.

Then dig a french drain 50 feet by 3 wide and 9 deep upslope from your gravel pad as a defense to washouts. (Thats a backhoe job AFTER your intended spot to dig is cleared by local utilities before you dig.)

Florida is on Karst Rock. Carry a rider to your insurance so that if the Bobtail or trailer truck sunk into a sinkhole you can cover the loss.

I park at my house but for the winter months due to deep snow (2 to 4 feet). I've found parking at a secured mini storage about 30 minutes away that has places in the back for RVs. I also cold called a few nearby small construction companies and one has agreed to allow me to park there as well. Look around and you will find some options.

All the campers in Florida, might find something. Going rate around here in Michigan, is $100 a month. It would be worth paying the Antique Mall. $100. You can probably have the palm trees moved, or sell then To a Landscaper, maybe make a deal, Get some gravel brought in and graded.I would bite the bullet, and get the yard work done, if possible. I miss bringing my T/T home. So much nicer, when working, cleaning it, or whatever. Don’t leave it just anywear, Florida has a lot of kickback schemes, between Commercial property Owners and Towing Companies. It’s a racket. It’s even Legal to Hotwire a Truck, and drive it to a pound,Parking on a street, is better, as they have to sticker it for a certain amount of hours, before the Cops can tow it. So I was told by a Tow Truck Operator that booted my Truck once, near Tampa.

If you have the room at your home, that “in my opinion “ is the best place, but like others have said, make sure the ground is strong enough to support the weight, best of luck

Instead of driving to the back of your property, you might consider putting a truck parking near the front. My father-in-law and I both drive. We use the gravel for a turn around then back the tractors to the edge. It makes things easier being so close to the road.
