Rookie? I watched a young guy in a saw mill tarp his load. He did a beautiful job, the thing looked like it was gift wrapped. 14 feet high and square ends.
He had a hard time getting it bungeed down though...the tarps were inside out.
Me and a couple of other guys helped him pull the tarps off and gave him a quick lesson in rolling tarps and rigging rubber rope.
The kid had a good attitude about the whole thing so we all shared a few of our screw-up stories with him. We all had several.

Think about this in relation to this comment! -----He had a hard time getting it bungeed down though------! Now give that a long deep thought, I'm sure @REO6205 will add more!

It would be nice if they were. The tarps have grommets and loops sewn in rows down the sides. You can tie off rubber rope at one end and thread it down the length of the tarp and fasten it as you go along to hooks under the rub rails. Same with the bungee cords except they work better on the ends.
A good way to get an argument started is to ask four or five lumber haulers about the best way to tarp and what each one uses. Everybody does it a little different but the basics are the same.

This guy explains it pretty well and better than I can.

Wanna show em youre a real rookie? Call on 82 cents per mile loads. Maybe you can even stop by the brokerage and scrub the toilets on your way by.

Backing under a trailer without stopping to see if it's too high. They'll learn after they skip the kingpin and spend 30mins in heavy rain on a mud lot trying to crank it up

Dont ask me how I know..

6 months in as a newbee I flipped a u turn in a tight intersection and the rear swing of my trailer caught the signal light and ripped it off.
... Backing into the dock and tearing up the inside of the trl door
... Forgetting to lock in the tandems and then they slam all the way back to the rear at the stop light
... dropping a trl in our yard after hooking up causing damage to undercarriage of trl
    ...Backing into stuff

Yeah, and nobody saw me do any of it, so it didn't happen!
