That's very nice of you !
Give us space ...most experienced drivers know what you will do before you do it .
Be understanding that we can't always get over for you .
Thank you !
I drive a car. What can I do, and avoid doing, to better share the road with trucks.

LIGHTS ON in all low visibility situations!
Make it easy for us to see you.
We don't want anything to do with you... so if we see you... we know where you are.
Fog, rain, mist, snow, heavy clouds... turn em on.. THEYRE FREE !!austinmike, 18 wheels of fury, Cabinover101 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Do Not use emergency flashers just because its raining...with Flashers on its impossible to know if you are using signals or brakes...
Muddydog79, D.Tibbitt and jammer910Z Thank this. -
I am not trying to hurt or kill you intentionally but you would remember from drivers ed that you will need to yield. Its worth your life and future to do it properly.
More than likely as not, I have a hell of a day/night camera. We will replay the crash as it happened in court.
IF you did not?
Well... that puts a very bad problem into my lap.
One impossible situation solved so easily never is....
Consider a construction lane closure with signs two miles prior. Everyone move left.
What do these einstiens do? Pile up and herd at the jammed standing still pile at the very last part of the closing barriers. 200+ cars all thinking "Me first" With 1000 more coming.
What we should do is space out and form a zipper traffic will find that all flows by into that single lane at speed limit. But that's impossible out here. Too much to expect.Cabinover101 Thanks this. -
I'll second the headlights in adverse conditions post. When it's rainy and foggy out mirrors tend to puddle with water spots. Without your headlights on it can be sometimes impossible to see you beside us. Especially if your car is silver or gray
D.Tibbitt, Cabinover101, jammer910Z and 2 others Thank this. -
In Oklahoma depending on pavement color, your own car's PAINT will camouflage perfectly with that in certain conditions day or night.
That can and probably will get you killed or worse. I don't want you to run off and buy a hot pink charger or a neon puke green drifter... but stay away from pavement colors for your car. Its a very small thing but I have had conflicts in the past with certain cars of that method. -
If you want to pass me push on the skinny pedal like you mean it so you get around me quickly.
If you are following behind me while I'm passing another vehicle, STAY BEHIND ME dont try to pass me on the right because I dont immediately get back over. Two reasons I go farther past a vehicle before I come back over in front of them...
1: I pass all vehicles like I would like to be passed. Meaning I give the vehicle I'm passing an appropriate following distance behind me before I come back over.
2: It is difficult to tell how close the back of my trailer it to the front of the vehicle I'm passing. Example, have you ever backed your car into a parking spot at the store and when you get out you realize there is 6 or 8 feet behind your car where you thought was only 2 or 3 feet? If you can relate to this, imagine trying to jude that distance in a mirror on a vehicle that is 70 feet long.tinytim, Sirscrapntruckalot, LoboSolo and 4 others Thank this. -
Most Definetally if you need you wipers (even just sparatically) turn your headlights on. Just the mist coming off my tires can sometimes be enough to hide a small car beside me when I look in my mirrors, if that car has its lights on I can at least see the glow and know that something is there.
D.Tibbitt, x1Heavy and Cabinover101 Thank this. -
Well if the OP is really concerned about this, it certainly puts them in the minority. Unfortunately i'll probably never see them or have the pleasure of driving with them on the road.
That being said, i'll continue to try to avoid the looney birds down here that are willing to put their life in jeopardy to save a few precious seconds. Of course, with suicide being one of the top ten leading causes of death, why would I be surprised??
