    Big deal.

So thievery and bad things happen.

There are defenses and workarounds to that problem.

We generally kept a thumper near to hand plus a combat blade. I actually took on a sexual offender targeting my spouse in our cab once. Good thing he took off. He had targeted her while fueling in Jackson TN one day. Followed her to my tractor. Me in sleeper.

Don't worry, if your body is working well, you will wake up and do what is necessary in a very quick short time.

I don't worry about the news blather too much. I usually sleep about 2 hours outside of Chicago anyway. OR my favorite quiet spot on the central east coast...

If I was to sleep with my doors open, unlocked (big if), or even with the windows down, my valuables would be where they could not be taken by anyone coming into the truck. But I have seen guys just toss their wallets on the dash and leave them there.

Yes, I sleep with the wallet and briefcase under a blanket tucked in close to my pillow.
That type of theft has been going on for decades. Have to tie something so both doors are tied together inside the truck. Even if the thief unlocks the door, it still won't open from outside the truck.

never had this kind of problem. Once my fuel was pumped when I was sleeping in my truck. Happened in Petro Kingman, az. I was park outside of truck stop, on dirt spot, west side.

I used to be one of those dummies that tossed the wallet on the dash, as it was easier on the back. One night, many years ago, along 95 somewhere below the M/D line, forget exactly where, I awoke to a slight rocking of the truck, a C/O pete. I looked over and observed a hand and arm reaching through the window, which was cracked open a little bit, in an attempt to grab my wallet on the dash. I rose up and attempted to grab that arm, but wasn't quick enough. Turned out to be a lizard, who took off quick and disappeared into the night.

I've always kept the doors locked when sleeping and am a very light sleeper, otherwise I likely would have lost that wallet. Needless to say. I never left the wallet on the dash after that.

I heard of incidents of stealing cargo from the back of the trailers on some of the I 294/80 oasis where thousands of passersby travel through every day, including scambag thieves. I would not leave a truck there unoccupied and uber out of there.

The rest areas are the ones on 80 between MORRIS and Minooka Illinois, both sides east and west also going into trailers,
