    I think the first computer trucks took away the music from the old iron. All it does now is whine like a over used weed eater.

    I remember a cat 350 one night in Wisconsin, we had a fuller 10 on it Put away Madison one late spring night temps were perfect, everything was in temp and she just went.

    If all trucks ran that nice with the music to match in them old days I would have no reason to be needed as they say in today's overengineered crap.

    OP you've got it exactly correct.
    There's a bit more going on but that's the basic process. When you shift you have to get the gear speeds to match so they will engage.
