This appears to be the future. You can bet T/A Corporate is going to revisit the idea of having armed security guards. And no one is willing to approach an improperly parked driver without a weapon. Look for them to back down big time, and all of the other truckstops big and small are just going to turn a blind eye to the anarchy that is their parking lot. Then the fights, stabbings, and shootings that are becoming more and more common between the individual drivers are going to go unchecked.
It will be for the courts to decide whether or not the property owner is partially/fully responsible for the activities at his place of business.

I'd reckon that two folks who need to work on their people skills let better judgment escape momentarily.mjd4277, Rideandrepair and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
A trucker shot and killed a security guard in cold blood at the Sapp Bros. in Salt Lake City in 2007. You never know when someone might escalate the situation quickly.

Latest update from KWTV @ 6PM:
Alleged Fight Over Parking Spot Leads To Shooting At SW OKC Travel Center
The security guard wasn’t taken into custody but that doesn’t mean he’s off the hook. They still needed a statement from the driver who is hospitalized and then they’ll present it to the district attorney who makes the call on what to do.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
My problem with it is that, when the truck stop mergers were going on, the big chains claimed the mergers would benefit drivers. If they made clear at the time of the mergers that they planned to hold 1/3 of their parking lots for paid parking those mergers wouldn’t have been allowed.

Ever since these big chain truck stops started charging for parking(especially if some of the spots were originally free) the situation has gotten worse and worse. This is one of the reasons why you see trucks parked on shoulders,off/on ramps and it’s also partially led to more incidents like this one.

If a person is trained and skilled at fighting and he carries a gun, if someone physically attacks him his Instinct will be to defend himself and not pull the gun unless it is actually necessary.
A person that has no ability to defend himself could panic, and be concerned that not only will the guy beat him up but he will take his gun off of him and shoot him. It is a valid concern, but it makes the situation much more volatile.
It is hard to figure what really happened because there are so many ways that could have gone down.Brettj3876 Thanks this.
