Is it an RDS driver you have to fill in for when you drive the small box truck? And if so does it pay by the hour? We used to fill in for RDS drivers when they took vacation or time off and got paid hourly, but not anymore now we deliver by the case/stop/mileage. Not sure why it changed but we also deliver it with a semi and some of those stores are delivered with a straight for a reason. I don’t have to worry with that anymore but I think they made it harder for the guys who do! I went and ran vacations in Little Rock before and it was alright.

Yes it is an RDS driver we would fill in for. If they catch it in time they will usually try to load it on a big truck. but like you said sometimes that isn't so good because some of those places are tight in a box truck much less a big truck. When we run these routes we get paid just like we would if we were running a regular run (stop pay, case, and mileage) so it works out okay most of the time.

The most I’ve had on a vend run was 2100, on bin was 2790, but I recently did a plant to plant and it was cubed out with 3600 cases. So glad it was just a D&H.

Just another update. I know it has been a while. It has been insanely busy lately since the virus and all the panic shopping going on. The money has been insanely good and the schedule has been quite ridiculous. I really do love it here. I have been here 6 months now and it has all finally come together. I actually find the job quite easy now and very rewarding. Things are still going really good and I have moved up a few spots in seniority which is a plus. I am hoping within the next few months I come off the extra board and have a little more control of my schedule. Anyway wanted to check in and let everyone know it is going really well here, I love it and it may actually be the last stop on my career path.

that’s good to hear. I was promoted to the bid board back in January. They said that that was a record for DBS to promote someone that fast to the bid board. They promoted 5 of us at the same time. At the time of the promotion we had only been with the company for 6 months.

But you’re definitely right about being super busy due to covid-19. We have been swamped with work. The only positive is that on vends we no longer have to unload, we have to hire a lumper and we still get the case pay.

Thanks for the update, man! Been wondering..fer'sure, fer'sure. (You oughta update elsewhere too, ya know!)

KUDOS on things going mad hatter busy / money for you, however. I'm getting it too. I haul 'boxes' in 'boxes' for Int'l Paper if you recall...well ... stores need BOXES and packaging for product, 'lest they hand out Campbell's soup by the ladle, and Heinz ketchup by the packet, haha! Love it while you got it; stay safe, and best wishes on getting your own bid run!!

    And..btw: To you and yours~! >> [IMG]

I am so glad you have figured it out. I see so many guys quit after about 3 or 4 months because they get aggregated because they are having to pull mostly crap runs and they really are past the worst part if they would just tough it out. It only gets better from now on Icecold!
