    How long was YOUR training?

Did you have prior tanker experience?

Is all training “in house” or do you need to go offsite for some?

Did you have multiple trainers or the same one throughout?

I don't believe they will hire anybody without experience.
I had previous tank experience and they used to require that but lately they have not.
Training is usually with another driver for about 6 weeks, all in house and probation is for 6 months.
Usually keep the same trainer unless he takes off or has vacation booked but most will train the same way.
Pay is dependent on where you work and if it's a union shop or not.
No pay scale, if your hired you make the same wage.
I work a union shop and did 120K
    last yr.

    tscottme and superpet39 Thank this.

I think all in CA are union.
Only in the right to work states are they non union.
And probation length is not company mandated but in accordance w local Teamsters contract.
We voted ours from 2 to 6 months because they were hiring lots of drivers due to attrition, increased customer base and a few firings and local management in their haste to put butts in the seats hired some not so qualified drivers.
Even after the trainers recommended not to hire they did anyhow and were promptly rewarded w accidents, incidents and damage.
It wasn't hard to push it thru, we want good experienced people working here, it reflects well on us, and for contract negotiations
It really is more than just a driving job and the pay reflects this.
It's a gig you can retire from while still having a life outside of the job.
All they ask is you do the job their way, all the time every time, even when no one's watching.
    Good luck...

I know of one (Pittsburgh, Ca) that isn’t a union hub? How’s the medical in your shop? Is your medical 100% paid (being a union shop) or no

    No ours is not paid.
We are under the corporate policy for medical...not the best but not the worst by far.
And of course prices continue to rise.
I used to work union for Wonder Bread out of Antioch back in the day

    superpet39 Thanks this.

One nice thing is after a year you are eligible/ able to transfer to another facility.
While you start at the bottom on plant seniority you always maintain your company seniority and benefits.
We had a guy leave for Florida last fall.
Took a 5 or 6 buck pay cut but wanted to finish his career down south.

    superpet39 Thanks this.

Was near 6 months from initial application to start date and that included a in person interview w plant superintendent 11 yrs ago.
Was offered the job while in Montana on a motorcycle vacation so had to wait a couple extra weeks.
