The going average is around 75 to 80 %. Or better.

So yes. Just find a different company.

Most company’s pay 73 to 80 percent with your own trailer, which you would need with your own authority

There’s a lot of homework involved in finding the best deal. Just because the pay percentage is higher doesn’t mean you have a better deal. Landstar’s pay percentage is smaller, but it will probably come with good discounts on fuel and truck repair, along with a load board where you can select your own loads, and let’s not forget everything that happens in the office such as IFTA and 2290 filing, truck registration, bookkeeping, federal/state annual tax filing, and so on.

Apples to apples, not apples to oranges. You’re going to need a trailer with your own authority. Typically those 65% companies pay another 7-10% for your trailer, so now you’re in the 70’s. Only you can decide if that’s with it. Remember percentages are misleading though. 100% of DAT or Truckstop brokered freight, you’re only getting 50-90% of the billed charges, and you’ll never know what they are. Add in a 2-5% quick pay/factor fee and you give up even more.
So let’s just sat a nice broker gives you freight at 80%, with a 4% quick pay. Liability insurance runs you 5% of your revenue, so now you’re at 71% of billed revenue, but you’re like “I’m getting my 100%”.
Now if you’re atypical, and your business plan is to secure direct customers, go for it.

Meaning the broker is taking a percentage right off the top and then the company.
