Like this idea but how can you tell it's Penske truck?

Can't miss it. It will have a couple Penske stickers on the inside. You can get Freightliner or Volvo to run the VIN as well, and they will tell you who originally purchased the truck.

Don't know much about truck rentals but I have spent a fair amount of time around heavy equipment rentals. Lets just say I'd be leary of buying a piece of rental equipment......

I agree. My Penske truck wasn’t a rental, it was a long term lease to a major retailer. The deer guard, disc brakes, auto transmission and lift gate plug were big giveaways. Then i found the lease in the permit book lol

Is this the kind of information Penske would give if I ask especially if am buying directly from them?

I don’t know, I bought mine at Ritchie Bros. If it’s yellow, has steel wheels or a 10 speed, 99% it was a rental.

    ulenie Thanks this.

Hmm good info. Love that Penske provides maintenance history online. It's been very insightful to see what major problems the various engines have throughout their life. From looking through the d13 engines, Volvo seems to have worked out the injector cup issue by 2015.

I was looking at Penske trucks, but they all had a lot of hours on the engine.
    For example 283,000 miles-9,030 hours, 304,000ml-10,075h, 329,000m-9,590h.
I was trying to find a low mileage truck with low hours, but gave up.
I went with SelecTrucks 350,000 miles - 7050h. Don't endorse them in any way, but it was the best deal I got and financing in less than 24 hours with Daimler.
Ritchei Bros. is a good place to buy a truck if you have the cash and know what you are doing.

A lot of the trucks I have seen on the Penske site have APUs.

That was my thinking too a truck with apu should have low hours. The truck with 304k miles had APU and still over 10K hours on the engine. I don't know how they manage that.
