ATTENTION ---->>> political statement ahead.
To the op, we are a scattered and fractured industry that has a lot of greed and selfishness driving it.
We don't think group think, many of us cry about trivial things that we see but the bigger things we just ignore.
OOIDA is very selective and with some issues pays lip service to appease people. I have confronted their leadership on issues that are really important, and they were never ELDs or what exemption that one or another group needs but serious issues that if allowed to snowball will put a lot of people out of business.
I tell my drivers vote. if not registered, then register and vote.
Don't care if they vote for Hillary or Obama or the devil, they need to vote.
Once they vote, then they have a small voice but still a voice.
When they call their representative to support one or another issue, they actually will see your voting record.
AND if you to talk to someone - you will talk to a staffer more likely than the actual rep, don't waste their time, don't ramble on about other things, use your personal experience to get them to listen, and make it detailed but concise.
Remember don't expect a comment back, it may not happen.
IF you want to be really effective, then get a number of people (5 to 15) from your district or state to meet with your rep, make an appointment with someone in their office, and go there as a group with ONE or TWO issues, not a dozen and tell them how it effect YOU, not the industry, not other drivers but YOU.
Don't remind them about you voting, don't threaten them, don't do a thing but tell your stories, take a few selfies and leave.
ALSO just as a reminder, it pays to donate to their campaign. Just saying money is important.
OK admins, if this isn't OK to post, just delete it.larry2903, Cabinover101, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this. -

Large groups get attention. The fact that drivers can’t pull together is one of the reasons nothing gets done.
