It's got about 546k on the clock. I read a bit somewhere about liner protrusion, what's it supposed to be set at? I thought they'd just bottom out in the block?

Yes and no on the liners bottoming out.

There is a ledge in the block the liners sit on. Shims are added to this ledge to get the desired liner height.

14 thousands of an inch seems to be the number some folks swear by for liner protrusion.

Some will say that the head is going to need to be replaced as well.
Basically by doing a through over haul would get you the most life out of your engine.

You gotta shim them in the thousands of an inch so they are all the same.

The head would be preferable to be replaced ...at 684k mine went in the scrap pile .
Along with the cam and the followers.
But hey it's a free half arse over haul..
