    I want to go over to Landstar as Flatbed o/o. Been driving a tanker a few years for a top tanker company. When I spoke to the recruiter she said I had to drive van for them for six months before I can pull flatbed. Something didn’t sound right with that and was wondering if she was BSing me?

    It may have changed, but I signed on with 10 years driving reefer, van and doubles.

    I attended their securement class for a day, which I found very helpful, and away I went.

    This was 5 years ago.

    Then there’s an 18 month to 2 year step up process to hauling oversize loads.

    I’m allowed to haul unlimited width and length now on a flat.

    Dang 1 day of securement class and thats it , sheesh i bet them first couple loads was rough lol . I only ever pulled a flat and sometimes still find myself shaking my head at the #### they like to throw on my trailer

    Theres a class?

    My first day at work was 1am sunday night, no fuel card, no logbook, no MC# .. truck idling when i showed up. Take this to greer SC and dont cross any scales.

    My cousin has many tales of hauling steel from Pittsburgh area to Boston in the 80's with a description much like your post.

    I appreciate that info! Is there another way for me to get the securement and tarp training needed to be successful? 2 days seems light. I know you cut your teeth in the real world, but, before I hit the road with a flatbed I think I would need some more detailed load training. Where can I get that? Can anyone answer this question?

    Honestly - talking to drivers, watching, listening, and You Tube.

    The securement class just gave me the hands on ‘link’ to everything I’d learned from others over time.

    Youtube is a great resource whenever im stumped on something that is first place i go, if not there then ask the people on here and somebodies hauled it before . If ya got no time to do that then ask the guy loading next to u or even the forklift guy for a word of advice, they may not know all of what needs to be done to be legal but can point u in the right direction most of the time
