The start of this job has been rocky, but i think it has potential as a niche home daily job. I wanted to share this review and updates on how things go with this company because I've found Mobile, AL to be kind of a weird job market. ( It has jobs but not everyone likes the Ports )

White Oak has several locations with different niche jobs in Alabama and Georgia. I hired on 2 weeks ago. I will say that the hiring and training process is lacking here because they have no local terminal office here. The HR person drove from Decatur, AL to do orientation with me and 2 other drivers at a local Pizza Hut. The next day I did a ride along which turned to be mostly me driving while the other guy slept lol. I was able to ask him procedural questions mostly to do with picking up at our dedicated customer in town International Paper. Nearly all of what we haul for them is Cardboard 'Knockdown' Boxes that are light weight loads so that is a plus.

I got to pickup a White Volvo ;) from Penske which will be my truck for now. It has White Oak decals so it's a longterm rental deal. I had to revisit them to fix a few issues.

I should add that the schedule is weird being Early A.M. which could be midnight. I'm a night person though so if I'm rested up for these runs I enjoy night driving.

So, while it's been a frustrating start I think my equipment issues are sorted out. Tomorrow, I dispatch to bobtail from Bay Minette, AL to Phenix City, AL to pickup an empty trailer and bring it back so I'll finally get to start the week with something really easy. I have been told will pay like a regular load for about 440 miles round trip. They do have some runs to Moultrie, GA which is just under 600 miles round trip.

I'll post more updates as I start another week.

Get yourself a track suit and a bottle of vodka and you’ll be in business!

    Just a few thoughts:

I'm enjoying the fact that they allow all trucks to run 70mph. It's been nice for passing on the Interstate.

I like that all my delivers are drop n' hook then just run the empty back. It all pays the same .45.

Dispatch is sent the night before I go back to work. More notice on my run would be nice, but it wouldn't surprise me if this is common for running local.

    Trips so far this week:

Bay Minette, AL to Phenix City, AL 440 Miles
Actually just Bobtail to bring back an empty. Very easy.

Bay Minette, AL to Dothan, AL 380 Miles
Mosty I-10 run in and out of a Tyson plant.

Bay Minette, AL to Forest, MS 380 Miles
Same, another Tyson drop and hook

It's still to early to know what a typical week here will be. I have previously done a run to Moultrie, GA that is about 600 miles so a few of those would bump it up.

I got better miles with PTI, but I'm interested in being home daily which I'm getting and cost of living in Bay Minette seems reasonable so I'm sticking around.

I've been with them for 7 months now out the Savannah area. Pay is good 48 cent a mile and 15 hr starts as soon as i arrive for an unload or if i'm waiting for a trailer to be loaded. My only complaint is orientation was unorganized and its hard to get in touch with anyone on the phone besides my dispatch.

Yeah quicky orientation at Pizza Hut for me. Granted an experienced driver may be glad to hurry up and get it over with. Sign this stack of papers, ask a few questions, and get some free buffet pizza lol.

Main thing that was missing was procedure for my main pickup which is basically done with a kiosk. Grab my bills, leave a signed copy, and scan one out with a bar code. I did a ride along which gave me a chance to ask more questions.

It's a strange setup, my local parking spot kind of sucks with big potholes, but it can still be worth it. My first full week's pay was about $800 after taxes. This may fluctuate with this job as one of our locations in Moultrie, GA is 600 miles round trip. A few of those would bump my pay up.

I have enjoyed being home every day and not bumping docks has been really nice. On Monday I deliver to Enterprise, AL which will just be a drop & hook. No looking for parking spots at truck stops just heading straight back with my empty.

It's actually getting to the point where my main concern is what Podcast or Audiobook can I find to listen to after I get familiar with my main customer sites.

Do you know how to get to your Enterprise location??? I know where you are going and a lot of drivers get lost the first time they go there. I'll be there tomorrow myself.

No, I was there at noon. In fact, I'm there at noon every day, Mon-Fri.

Nor happy with International Paper not being on time with loads. Right now I’m waiting on a Tyson load for 7am delivery and it’s 6:30 with them not even started on it yet.
