The place I work at, we have a lot of the International Workstars with auto transmissions. Empty they’re ok. But fully loaded with gravel, sand, salt, etc or pulling a 20ft traveler with a bobcat, mini excavator, or any piece of equipment. They suck and really struggle at times to pull a hill.
We also have some older GMCs that are geared way down.

Like I say, with a side wing or front blade, that is a lot of weight. I saw a plow operator, plows up, hit a bump too fast, and sent them in the ditch. Besides, you wouldn't be so upset when that plow is ahead of you in a storm. My grandfather, when he learned I wanted to be a truck driver, said, "get yourself a county job". Naturally, I didn't listen to him, but gramps was right.
Once, I'm told, a county crew left the shop for road detail. The lead man noticed they forgot the shovels. He radioed to the boss on what to do, who said, "just have the workers lean against the truck until he gets there",,:biggrin_25518:

Is the problem the slow truck or the people who don't have the balls to pass a 40 mph vehicle.

I'd rather the plow stay off the road when it's completely bare on a sunny day. He was neither plowing nor salting. No reason for him to be out. If the job is cleaning up debris that can be accomplished with another vehicle. They are government workers so they do what they want.

I've driven dump truck myself and worked on some fairly large jobs. I always worked efficiently and came right back.... I was hauling construction debris. They complained I was back too fast and was forcing them to work... They actually complained I came back too fast. I worked for a private construction company.

The plow might have been enroute to a place that required help.

That's just the way it is. In South Arkansas there are drop deck trucks running around that say ARDOT on the door and have a excavator hanging off both sides of the trailer definately oversize. There isn't a oversize load banner to be seen, there isnt a flag one to be seen, and I'll let you decide if he has a permit or not. It could irritate me that he can do what would get me thrown out of service with a whopping ticket to pay, but hey that's his privilege. He has no fear of the DOT. Grin and bear it. That's life, it's not fair.

Absolutely! They govern the snow plows in NY State just because of that whiney milk truck driver. :laughing-guffaw:

They are exempt by law, just like the military convoys you don’t see them pulling into weight stations.
