Actually, I don’t speed too much. But, I find it very hard to drive 7 or 800 miles in California at 55 mph.
Are radar detectors effective? Worth owning?

They are illegal in commercial vehicles, but if you want to use one in a personal vehicle, get a good one ie Escort, Valentine One. I had an Escort X50 for many years. Hardwired to my bike. Saved my bacon lots of times.

No electronics wiz but have heard that the DOT and state have some kind of gizmo to tell them if you have a active radar detector in the truck.

Psh!!
Mount it up high of course, hidden behind console, then wire to toggle switch.
That way you can turn it off when they run the detector over it when your stopped and it won’t chirp!
