Actually, I don’t speed too much. But, I find it very hard to drive 7 or 800 miles in California at 55 mph.

Are radar detectors effective? Worth owning?

They are illegal in commercial vehicles, but if you want to use one in a personal vehicle, get a good one ie Escort, Valentine One. I had an Escort X50 for many years. Hardwired to my bike. Saved my bacon lots of times.

No electronics wiz but have heard that the DOT and state have some kind of gizmo to tell them if you have a active radar detector in the truck.
Anybody know if this is true.

    Psh!!
Mount it up high of course, hidden behind console, then wire to toggle switch.
That way you can turn it off when they run the detector over it when your stopped and it won’t chirp!

Used to, when it first came law you couldn’t use one, they’d let your run over it, or give you a ticket for it.

    Hm.
    Spoof!!
Put a dial on your speed sensor to adjust it to say 55.
    BUT.
remember when you go into a 35 mph zone or you’ll get hit with 55/35

Radar detectors are good for detecting the exact moment you’ve been caught.
