First, I’ve never used a broker. Since I’ve owned trucks I’ve done livestock or food and feed grade dry bulk. The way I see it, the agreement on the rate is between the truck/company owner and the broker. It has nothing to do with the agreement between the shipper and the broker. Those are two separate transactions and are independent of each other.
So today I find myself in a discussion on social media because about whether “the government” should regulate how much brokers can profit or not. It blows my mind that business owners are actually in favor of the government saying how much another business can profit. I don’t want them doing that for my business, so I can’t imagine wanting them to do it for others. If you can’t agree on a rate with the broker then move on, or am I thinking too simply with that concept?

But they are certainly being greedier sacks of ####s then normal..
And the usual rate cutters out there have driven the rates into oblivion. Its partially our own fault, so to speak for those fools agreeing to keep taking the same load as the week before for less & less till it's an unlivable wage..
But, the broker is also a bit of a prick for constantly lowering the rate.. If I'm happy at $2.60 mile, I'm not going to call my shipper each week to say I need 10cents more ever week.. Why ruin a good thing.? Well because I'm not a scumbag broker..chimbotano, alds, rachi and 9 others Thank this. -
I've got a friend in Ga that was a high dollar stripper that gave that up to get into brokering cause she makes more in 3 days as a broker than she did in 7 as a stripper. She was pulling in $2000.00 a week as a stripper.Go figure.

The main problem I see with your question is, the way you worded it.
Regulating profit means no matter what you can only earn so much. (Ex $60 per load regardless of what its paying)
The other means only a certain percentage. So do a better job selling at higher rate and earn more.650cat425 and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
