I came into the Flying J at Lebanon Indiana yesterday. (Bobtailed in from a nearby Cooper tire DC ) and found that the remaining free bobtail spots has been converted into RV parking spots. ( which they do enforce unfortunately. Got a knock on my door at 7:00 in the morning from an employee telling me to move because the parking is for RVs only.) Basically taking the amount of paid bobtail parking spots from about 75% to 100%.
I would like to know who at corporate thought this was a good idea, because from my observation almost no one uses the paid bobtail parking even though it's the only bobtail parking at that Flying J.. there's too many other bobtail parking options in the area and I personally refuse to pay $18 to park a piece of equipment that I do not own.
100% paid bobtail parking at flying j. Lebanon, Indiana

Yeah I am aware that legally they can do whatever they want with their property. However it's also my right to take my business elsewhere if a company pulls a stupid stunt like this.
Like I said there's too many bobtail parking options in the area and the Huddle House that was there closed about a year ago. So the only compelling reason to park there these days is for the free showers.Last edited: Aug 27, 2024

No free reserved parking with their rewards card?Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this.

If you mean spending 1800 points to reserve a spot then yes I could technically reserve a spot that way. But that still means that I'm spending points that could be getting me free food instead of parking a piece of equipment that I don't ownTb0n3 and TheLoadOut Thank this.

No I don’t mean using your points. Sounds like PFJ has a lousy rewards program.
TA / Petro I can get free reserved, free shower and two large drinks (coffee for me) every day and not use the $0.04 per gallon credit.
Maybe consider making a change?
here’s a screenshot of what I got recently at no cost to me.Flat Earth Trucker, Blagoje, Sons Hero and 3 others Thank this. -
And now I know more about how TA rewards work, appreciate the information.

Unfortunately though my employer signed a exclusive fuel contract about 2 months ago, so I'm pretty much stuck with Pilot/ Flying J until either the contract expires or me and my employer part ways, whichever comes first.Flat Earth Trucker, Sons Hero, austinmike and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yup since you have the right to take your business elsewhere, that should reduce your gripes. Flying J in Pontoon Beach, IL has a bunch of paid bobtail parking on the 4 wheeler side. I took a 34 there a couple of months ago, and parked in the bobtail parking. Didn't pay a dime. They didn't say anything either. If it were me, I would have parked in the reserved parking. If they came out and made me move, it's just what it is. I'm of the opinion, that if I get to the truck stop past 9, and it's available reserved parking, it's automatically free parking......that's trucker math. If they hadn't sold those spots by then, oh well.Flat Earth Trucker and Concorde Thank this.
