I was contacted today by a company who wants to hire me contingent on me completing school(I am attending NETTTS in Bridgeport,CT). I was informed i would have to fill out a 1099 to be hired and drive for them. They told me ill be a private contractor. Has Anyone had experience with this kind of employment before and what advice would u give. BTW im not responsible for maintenance fuel or tolls

I believe that the 1099 status as an employee is illegal.

It's usually not the best thing in my opinion. Most times they are doing it so they save money on taxes. You have to pay all the taxes yourself. Your suppose to do it every quarter. Lots of people don't then at the end of the year you owe the IRS money and don't have that also. So they behind on taxes. Lots of time the trucking company don't pay enough money to make up for the extra taxes you have pay. Sometimes the don't pay like they said and you get really messed up. Because you independent contractor and have nothing to fight back with. You can't complain to state labor board if the don't pay you.
