11 Children, Including Family of 9, Abandoned

OMAHA, Neb. Eleven children ranging in age from 1 to 17 were left at hospitals Wednesday under Nebraska's unique safe haven law, which allows caregivers to abandon youngsters as old as 19 without fear of prosecution.
Nine of the children came from one family. The six boys and three girls were left by their father, who was not identified, at Creighton University Medical Center's emergency room. Unrelated boys ages 11 and 15 also were surrendered Wednesday at Immanuel Medical Center.

These people are NUTS!!! Good Gawd, you had them, you take care of them. That ISN'T what the law is intended for. Its so sad.

Maybe so.

But think about how many times people have commented about abusers and neglecters.

Maybe these people are at the end of their ropes and this is to prevent harming the children. It is much better if this is found to be the reason.

OMAHA, Neb. - When Nebraska lawmakers passed a unique "safe-haven" law that allowed parents to abandon children as old as 19, they never seriously thought such dropoffs would become common. But their worst fears have come true: At least 16 children, some of them teenagers, have been abandoned since the law took effect in July.

Very strange somebody would drop of a 17 year old... At that age you pretty much can get emancipated..
