12.7 Detroit need a new turbo (upgrade?), hauling light and best mpg?

man all i know is that i replaced the original one and put a tune in it but its a DOG with 2 legs and a cramp. i spoke to leon and he told me the only way to make it work was to put the 14l injectors and retune it.

 

I'm rebuilding the engine right now...after its done i will get it on the road and see.

I haul rock in an end dump. 85.5k. All stock, 470 hp, 3.58 rears, 10 speed. All flat ground, local, 95% 65 mph highway with 5% dirt road. Its enough power but trying to maximize mpg, thought maybe 550hp would be the ticket, I rarely run above 1750 rpm. If anyone suggests (in their opinion) a better tuner, please post or pm that guy as well. Appreciate any help.

 

finally truck is running....what can i say? ride is not harsh nor smooth, somewhere in between..as i said this truck came with a 171702 1.45 ar, full tilt manifold ,5915 injectors, ecm is ddec4 500.THIS TRUCK IS A #### DOG! just like all detroits i drove in my life. Leon's shop is close by and maybe i will try tuning it.i dont need a 800 hp engine i just want this truck to, at least, run like my cat.

 

maybe the best aproach would be a smaller turbo. But is not the lag that bothers me. even in high rpm this truck is too slow for my taste.

 

Do you have a tune? If not that's why it's dog with the 1.45 housing. Need fuel to spin that big housing. Report back when you do. Even with a tune the 1.45 might be a tad too big. The 1.32 is what you need. The 1.45 on 12.7 is over kill unless you have tons of fuel.

 

Just got this truck and rebuilt the engine, 500 hp stock ddec4. 1.32 would spool faster but would cure this 'detroit lazyness"? I have a truck with a 3406e 550 and an old file (no low Nox), just need this detroit to run like that.
