A couple of thoughts. That housing is indeed too large for any power setting setting near 500. If you were going to leave the stock or nearly stock hp, id put a 1.15 housing on it. BG makes them. This won’t turn it into 550 cat power, but it will make it “peppy”, and you won’t have to wind it up like a clock for it to pull, and fuel mileage will improve big time.

fernando from dcs has a 580hp/1880TQ. would that match this turbo?

The 1.32 should work nicely with that power... the 1.45 is more for 650+ IMO

FWIW, I would do something now with that big ### turbo... Detroit’s tend to soot the oil quickly, and with that 1.45 on it, it’ll soot up all the faster. Soot wears out the rings...

It never will run like a cat. Especially a 12.7. They just don't have the bottom end grunt that a cat has. Put a good tune in it and go to a 1.32 and it will pull decent.

seriously???? lol...when i bought it a bunch of detroit lovers told me : cats are are overrated, just install a manifold, turbo and a nice tune from leon and it will be a cat killer ! lol.... bobtailing yesterday was so disappointing, this truck is too slow, i can only imagine pulling a heavy load lol...tks.. im goint to tune with leon and see

Yup, seriously. I've had both. Your 12.7 tuned will pull right along with a cat but just won't have the torque down low. Basically your rpm band will be about 300 rpm higher then a cat. There not that bad but definitely no kitty.

hey boss i hear ya. i bought and install the 171702 borg warner turbo with a 515 hp file and i gotta tell ya i was so dissapointed. i talked to leo but the price to change injectors and all that was like 5K so definetly a NO on that. so my mechanic had originally told me to go with a borg warner K31 turbo and i finally decided to swap it out laat week as it was just gonna be $1000 BUCKS and let me tell ya , it is a very different truck now. of course it will never be a CAT but im doing 60 mph in the chattanoogas. plenty of power and getting anywhere between 7 to 7.6 mpg @70 mph @1600 rpms
